Hi again, and thank you for advising me about the Windows update issue. I had heard it would be a problem but I have not yet done anything about it. I will read the discussion you mentioned and start a plan of action.

Hello, 1+ year member, 1st time looking for help.
Just got a new Dell PC with HDMI 2.1 card so I can have 4k/120Hz
Windows 11 Home 21H2
I downloaded and expanded WMC-V8.8.5 zip file.
This is where I am at now, with no idea what to do next.
The readme.txt does not give you any instructions and there are a plethora of windows command script files, but no idea what they do and or what order to install them in.
I looked all around YouTube, but the one video I found.. his files do not match the ones I have.
Could you please point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!

In order to install WMC, simply decide if you want the Green GUI or the Blue GUI, then run the corresponding cmd file.

I have installed lav filters and the ms dvd player. What am I missing?

You may need to restore the mui file for MSVidCtl.dll as per this post: viewtopic.php?p=141634#p141634 but unfortunately, I can't get to MDL to see the original post to give more details.

the post it links to isHi @Kévin Chalet,
I have finally been able to debug your version 8.8.4 together with DVBLink. The last time I posted about this was last August in post 9570. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/thread ... st-1542747
It turned out to be a missing MUI file for MSVidCtl.dll.
I used the API Monitor tool and the Visual Studio 2019 debugger to break into the code inside MSVidCtl.dll at the point in time when I tried to view live TV using the DVBLink virtual tuner. After some stepping around inside MSVidCtl, I realized that a call returned HRESULT 0x80073B01 (Win32 error code ERROR_MUI_FILE_NOT_LOADED). After this it was not hard to figure out that when making a particular COM component registration-free using a manifest file, it is sometimes not sufficient to copy only the COM component DLL. This time it was also necessary to copy the <language-code>\MSVidCtl.dll.mui file. I am on a Swedish system, so I had to copy the file C:\Windows\System32\sv-SE\MSVidCtl.dll.mui to C:\Windows\ehome\sv-SE. After having copied this file, everything started to work again.
Yes, maybe.
It was nine months ago, so I don't remember all details and the test system is long gone. Maybe I'll give this approach a new go sometime later. Could you please point me to that API monitor tool that you mention?

Thanks for the posts @bros, I think MDL might be getting overloaded as it keeps timing out for me.
I've had a look on one of my old Windows 10 systems and there isn't a copy of that file in system32\en-GB but there is one in system32\en-US. As you might expect, the file doesn't exist on recent versions of Windows 10 or Windows 11.

I have a new PC with Windows 11 and am trying to get 8.85 to work. My previous PC worked fine with the same setup, but this time the OS in on an SSD. WMC installs and opens as normal but it can't find my tuner, which is a Hauppage card, which I have used for years. Have done several reinstalls to no avail.
I read that some apps have problems with SSDs. Does anyone else have it working from an SSD?
Any other ideas please?
Hoping someone may be able to help. Cheers

An SSD doesn't matter. I am at this very moment watching TV on my Win11 PC with Hauppauge Tuner card and WMC 8.85 installed to an SSD.

Yes. Did the full install, even the WinTV 10 software (which helps confirm the card is working.)

Thanks for replies.
I installed WinTV10 which installed different drivers, so now the channels have been found and are working.
But now I am getting picture freezing and breakup on both WinTV and WMC. The signal from the antenna has been checked and is fine. So now trying various workarounds and will also contact Hauppage support.

Something else to check is that your Coax cable isn't pushing/pulling/shifting your WinTV card causing it to dislodge. A bad connection with the PCIe contacts can interrupt your signal.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure it's seated and tight. Will re-check. We removed it from 1 of the PCIe slots into the other. Still the same result.

I did an upgrade from Windows 10. I left WMC installed and it was still in place after the upgrade. I had to find the tuners again and use EPG123 restore, and then add the tray applet to startup, but that was it.
The problem is that it's less stable for me. It worked well under Windows 10, but under 11, I get a lot of times when it hangs, the picture freezes, the screen is entirely black, and ctrl-alt-delete might fix it, even if I do nothing but return to the program after pressing it. It might be 11 or it might just be the new video drivers that got updated with 11. Most of the time it works fine.

Greetings everyone - I'm guessing that Win11 will not see network HDHR prime cablecard tuners - anyone know if this is still the case?
Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, Cable Cards do not work in Windows 11 due to required components (WMDRM among others) not being present.

Not necessarily..... Basically, many cable companies have actually dropped the requirement for Cable Card activation, WDRM and Playready, however, when it comes to downloading and installing playready, Download the X64 runtime, Stop the MC Receiver Service, install from the installer, restart the service, and Voila. Media center believes that Playready is updated and installed, and therfore, allows you to tune with Cable card. Literally had to do a fresh install of 8.1 that ran into this issue, so I think it would be the same for 11... I'll try it myself as 8.1 is now no longer supported.technodevotee wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 10:24 amTo the best of my knowledge, Cable Cards do not work in Windows 11 due to required components (WMDRM among others) not being present.

What I meant was that cable cards don't work in WMC on windows 11.
To date, no one seems to have managed to get them working in WMC on a version of Windows 10 later than 1511.
