Poll: What do you think of "Under the Dome"?
What do you think of the new show "Under the Dome"? I've watched three episodes so far, and it's just so-so.

Was the premise stolen from the Simpsons movie or was it based on a book or something?barnabas1969 wrote:What do you think of the new show "Under the Dome"? I've watched three episodes so far, and it's just so-so.

It's a Stephen King book. I haven't read the book, but I've read some reviews about the book... and most people really like the book. The writing in the show is terrible, and so is the acting.

It just doesn't feel like Stephen King without Frank Darabont at the helm. I mentioned that over at the MMC G+ community. It's not the worst thing on TV right now though.

Well, I've seen a few Stephen King mini series that were just crap. I love his books, but they don't always translate well to the screen.
Please, tell me, what's worse on TV right now?
EDIT: Well, OK, besides the "reality" TV stuff, Honey Boo Boo, Kardashians, and crap like that.

Have you ever watched a whole movie, and you kept expecting it to get "better"? But then, at the end of the movie, you asked yourself, "Why did I waste 2-3 hours on that?"
I've felt that way about several movies (most notably "AI - Artificial Intelligence"). In each case, there was lots of hype... but a big let-down when watching the show. This show feels like that to me. I keep hoping that they will make it better as time goes on, but this one drags on week-after-week instead of hour-after-hour.

Funny, that's what I thought the book did.barnabas1969 wrote: but this one drags on week-after-week instead of hour-after-hour.
I'm of the opinion that this was not one of King's better books and you're right, his books usually dont translate well into movies.

I just missed getting in on the poll. I like it, and will keep watching. It's on par with the other Stephen King bases series' I've watched.
But then, I like a lot of the SyFy movies...

This show is laughably bad, and now that they've renewed it for another season I'll be done with it.

I think the plot has actually gotten better in the last couple of episodes. But the acting is terrible.

I wouldn't peg it to win any awards, but it keeps me occupied for an hour (less commercials).

LOL so magically it rains (way too hard and too long), then magically all the fighting in the streets stops and everyone pitches in to collect water?barnabas1969 wrote:I think the plot has actually gotten better in the last couple of episodes. But the acting is terrible.
Your definition of a good plot is a lot different than mine...
The big problem here is that no way in heck should this show go longer than a miniseries, just like every other King adaptation. But CBS hired crappy writers who deviated massively from the book and the plot will get even more unbelievable now that they have to stretch it out.

At Kennedy Space Center, condensation occurs at the top of the Vehicle Assembly Building, and what is basically "rain" falls. If you have a large enough enclosure with heat and moisture, you will have condensation and what could be called rain.slowbiscuit wrote:LOL so magically it rains (way too hard and too long), then magically all the fighting in the streets stops and everyone pitches in to collect water?barnabas1969 wrote:I think the plot has actually gotten better in the last couple of episodes. But you have a point about how everyone suddenly stopped looting and fighting.

It's just ok. It gives me something to watch over the summer.
Was anyone else amused by the "keep away from the dome or your electronics might explode" but for some reason this doesn't apply to the guy's Windows 8 tablet which was clearly shown twice for obvious "product placement"?

I like how in the book air kind of just seeps through the dome, and that concept played a very important part in the ending of the book. But in just about every scene in the show, the trees are tossing about wildly and hair is being blown about in strong gusty winds. I guess they couldnt film in still air conditions.

Yeah, I caught the tablet thing. I guess tablets are immune, but only Win8 tablets.cncb wrote:It's just ok. It gives me something to watch over the summer.

Was the guy with the tablet outside the Dome? The only people who had problems with electronics when touching the dome were on the inside.

I'm not sayin the plot line is flawless, but all the electronics that blew up were in contact with the person at the same time the person was in contact with the dome. I don't think he had the tablet when he touched the dome, then when he did have it he never touched the dome.
I'm just going by memory, i could easily be wrong, and if i am... So be it.

Nope, you're wrong. Junior's flashlight exploded while he wasn't touching it or the dome. It started to wiggle in his hand (!) when he got CLOSE to the dome, and finally exploded after he dropped it. But the new sheriff's fiance's tablet didn't do anything, even when he placed it within inches of the dome.bmblank wrote:I'm not sayin the plot line is flawless, but all the electronics that blew up were in contact with the person at the same time the person was in contact with the dome.
