Well the Dec Updates (both KB5021291 and KB5020879) installed fine for me, and WMC still opens, plays, and time records. EPG123 still updates correctly. If there are any other issues with the updates, they aren't apparent so far.Green Lantern wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:02 pmCan anyone else please post their experience (either positive or negative) with the December updates? Thanks!

Yep, December updates seem fine. Just one last update to go. Hopefully it doesn't include a kill switch...

The Jan (final?) update KB5022338 for Windows 7 doesn't appear to adversely affect Windows Media Center. So far so good.

Windows 8.1- I am running Windows 8.1 on 2 machines. Both machines failed to complete download and to install 2023-01 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB5022352).
But, WMC on both machines continue to run perfectly. So I am not going to worry about failed install

The final Windows 8 update installed OK for me. No sign of any issues yet. Support for Windows Defender also ends today. It is not however clear if it will continue to receive definition updates for a little longer.

Well I've had a few Windows Defender definition updates from Windows Update since supposedly reaching end of support. Hopefully they will continue a while longer.

The February Windows 7 Cumulative Update KB5022872 didn't adversely affect WMC either. For those of you still on Windows 7 it can be found in the following threads:

So, after not seeing a bunch of people posting about the final January 8.1 update breaking WMC, I took the plunge and updated. So far no problems but I did experience a full-screen notification about the end of support and nothing I clicked about delaying or anything else would get me out of that screen. Tried alt-tabbing out but it kept bringing me right back to it no matter what I selected. Finally had to do a hard-reset. Obviously want to avoid dealing with that (or any other nags) about end of support. Does anyone know a currently working method to prevent them? Some googling only found old info/methods (registry entries, scheduled tasks, etc) that various people indicated they either didn't have on their 8.1 WMC system or they tried but it didn't work. Which is why I'm here hoping someone has a working method. TIA

Thanks but I'm not seeing anything in its info that indicates it will address this situation. The final ever Windows 8.1 has been applied and now it's just an issue of stopping the Microsoft full screen notification that seems to randomly appear about 8.1 no longer being supported.StinkyImp wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:05 pmI (and others) have been using this for a few years with great results. https://greatis.com/stopupdates10/Green Lantern wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 1:53 pmWhich is why I'm here hoping someone has a working method. Update: After looking into the app above a little more, it's unclear if it can do it. One place only shows Windows 7 and another shows 7-8. Nothing explicitly shows 8.1 but who knows??? Anyway, if it exists, I'd prefer a method that doesn't require a 3rd party app.

@Green Lantern
Have you seen this link from Bleeping Computer about the Windows 8.1 full screen nag?
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/m ... -warnings/
My Apologies for this being off the WMC topic.

I applied the registry setting and disabled the tasks back in October and haven’t seen a nag since.
