I think the answer to the replacement ? is largely subjective. I've read claims that an SSD is the only solution. Others, a 7200RPM 'spinner' is a must. Opinions will always vary. Choose the capacity you think you need, within your budget.

This is correct, digital VHF channels did not exist at the time WMC development stopped, so no scanning of VHF in WMC. Fortunately it allows you to enter them manually.

UPDATE 3 DAYS LATER: Absolutely everything is working fine now. Turns out that the warning about needing to activate the CableCARD had to do with the fact that we couldn't tune to any of the HBO channels, for whatever reason. A follow-up call to tech support (with a human being this time) took care...

Update:

Fixed everything above by reinstalling HDMI audio drivers, but now have new issue. The volume control on WMC does nothing. You can put it to 1 or 50, same volume level for content playback, it does however, affect menu volume and fast playback. Any work around for this? Would hate to need...

Yes, I scrolled through the channel listings and noted that they were up-to-date.
I cancelled the series I was recording and set it up as a new series and the full schedule was restored.
I'll check tomorrow and see if it has added episodes to the series and if not, I'll be back.

You can also try running cmd.exe as Administrator and then running the cmd script in that window just in case the check for admin mode is not working correctly.

What happens if you try to watch a channel in the virtual instance of WMC on the computer? Does that work? If that doesn’t work, the extenders probably won’t work either since they get the signal from WMC, not directly from the tuner.

I'm in the process of setting up a new PC, I noticed the gateway timeout error yesterday and today.
Since the previous post mentioned the error resolved, maybe just a zap2it problem?
I think I'll use this opportunity to just un-favorite the stations I have never recorded anything on in the past...

As an added benefit of redoing the TV Setup, I gained more channels. It picked up a few more cable card channels, and more of the x.x type channels from the 4 OTA...

I did another search with the name of the tuner card, and a post came up with a link to a different driver.
When I get a chance, I'll try it, and report back.
The crashes didn't happen all the time, so it may take a while to see if this helps.

I did have the latest driver installed and it was saved on my machine. I reinstalled the driver on top of the existing driver. That solved the problem. You can't make this stuff up!

I tried just leaving it at the login screen, then opening MC using my XBox 360 extender. It wouldn't get into it first first times. Then eventually it came up. Tried looking at recordings and the PC rebooted again.

Thanks. The tech who was here spent 6 hours. I was 'pretty' sure it wasn't my system. I waited a week and was able to contact the supervisor. He is in the dark as to the cause, but said they (some higher ups somewhere) WERE still working on it. When I reboot I get a steady light but CETON reports...

It really sounds like they have not provisioned your cable card properly. You did not specify what cable Co it is but some (e.g. Comcast/Xfinity) need not only cable card pairing/activation but lineup provisioning Hits to the card.

Keeping RTC correct is free and easy. No need to start recordings early. Only need to add 1 minute (if possible) to end, except sports and other live events like awards shows.

Have not been able to replicate my results from back then.
I tried two or three months ago and couldn't get it working.
But I think that was Windows 10 LTSB and the other earlier Windows 10 that supposedly works on physical boxes....

I've been running Win7 WMC and HD Primes (two) for years without any real issues. The main issue was hardware capability with the video card, resolved by changing PC's. I had to upgrade EPG123 recently, because of SD upgrade.

I suggest reinstalling WMC in Win7. Get it to where it works correctly....

The right-click update guide now didn't work, but the EPG conf gui save and execute worked perfectly..
