Anyone used power line networking?

I live an apartment, so running cables through walls isn't always the best option. And I hate wireless (spotty connections on N and for some reason it drops out a lot).
I am looking at either 85mbps or 200mbps power line networking adapters, and I'm wondering if anyone else has any info to share...
Last post
I'd personally recommend MoCA over powerline - powerline works great for some people, and horribly for others, with MoCA seems to work well for almost everyone.

Thanks a lot everyone, the posts are very helpful. We will go ahead with setting up a homegroup of some sort and forget the server for now. I appreciate all the advice greatly.

I've got a bunch of things on my home (wired) network. Tuners, AVR's, Squeezebox, ups, xbox 360's, computers.
Most of it besides the computers is 100mb.
If I turn on jumbo frames on the WHS2011 and my HTPC, will the xbox's function ok (HDTV/Movies)? All the other devices (maybe pulling music...

Jumbo frames have to be supported end to end. Otherwise all you end up doing in fragmenting more packets. It's also not much use on a 100 meg network. Don't bother with it.

Should I be using IPv6 on my router???

So, I'm considering enabling IPv6 on my router primarily so I can disable UPNP (it causes my DDWRT router to overflow it's NVRAM and I'm sick of manually configuring port forwards on my router). As I understand it, IPv6 will expose every computer on my network to the internet, with only their own...

Just found out that DDWRT's UPNP daemon has problems with it locking up and not responding. I have since bailed on DDWRT and gone to Tomato. Tons of free NVRAM now!

Interesting link, STC. It makes sense if you understand capacitive reactance. However, I would still be inclined to believe that you would get higher throughput if both of the powerline modems were connected to the same phase. The overall impedance of the physical copper wire between the two modems...

I've always had problems with Vista (32) Media Center and remote desktop, some rather bizarre, such as the background/screen saver changing after I attempt. I've rdc'd from XP, 7 and Mac 0SX machines. I've never tried accessing dvd on the MC box remotely.

Thanks everyone, I figured it out. It will work on windows 7, but you have to have a metadata update for the Recorded TV Manager software. It's a free update if you have already purchased the software.

As far as switch connectivity it depends on the interface speeds of those devices and their potential to fill up a gigabit link as well as your current port density. If you have the extra ports in the Procurve than run the extra cables. If not just verify the total number of devices and the amount...

once we get our bb connection sorted, I'll go back to manually assigned ip addresses, and see if that helps, if not, I'll go for the network analysis to see if any bottlenecks are on my network.
