Recommendations for an inexpensive video card with HDCP?

Recommendations for an inexpensive video card with HDCP?

#1

Can anyone recommend a decent, inexpensive HDCP compatible card (over HDMI, if exists) to have my Win 7 Media Center "digital cable ready"? I have a Radeon HD 7450 card in the machine now and it simply fails the DCA test.

Any modern GPU will work. Most favour Nvidia.

I'm surprised that a 7450 would not be sufficient. The older 5450 is reported to work fine.

Perhaps different drivers?

I am using an old HD 6570 with 13.1 drivers and it works fine. I tried updating to the latest drivers and it didn't work at all anymore, so I reverted back.

Just use the DCA hack and any card you want. 7450 is fine.

Here's the hack (override) I've used with great success on many systems:

Thanks folks...looks like I have a couple of options. Oddly enough I didn't see HDCP on the HD 7450 specs though I believe that is dumb as can be but I do have other machines in the house and I think my daughter will appreciate an update to a 7450 and I'll take her ASUS HD 5450 card and put in the MCE box for now. This is hopefully a temporary measure until SiliconDust breaks through the DRM barrier with its DVR and viewer.

went with 5450 but that alone didn't get it done after a driver reload and MCE reconfig. The DCA hack, however, did do the trick. This at least gets me recording. Unfortunately using the HDMI port on that card connected to my Vizio 70" E series left me with an unusable display and despite the number of things I tried with scaling on the TV and within the Catalyst Control Center, I couldn't get the entire picture on-screen. With a DCA hack, I can probably P2V the Win 7 MCE machine and run in HyperV since I bought a used Xbox360 for $50 and it works perfectly as an MCE with the picture being perfect. Being the owner of an XboxOne, it sucks it isn't an option in there but vendors like Microsoft will drive out the technology if they no longer wish to develop or support it.

Thanks again for the DCA recommendation.
