2.5", 5400rpm drive as a recording drive?

A place to talk about GPUs/Motherboards/CPUs/Cases/Remotes, etc.

2.5", 5400rpm drive as a recording drive?

My case has a nice setup for 2.5" drives and I'm considering replacing a 3.5", 4TB drive with a smaller 2.5", 2TB one as I'm not using nearly as much storage as I used to given my slow shift to Plex and keeping media on my server.

This drive is the one I'm looking at, and it seems to do adequately well in the HTPC testing. Anyone have any real-world experiences?

How many tuners and extenders? You should be totally fine unless you have a big rig.

I tested the Samsung Spinpoint 2TB 2.5" ($99 at Newegg) in my Dell i7 laptop with 4 tuners and 1 extender and it kept up just fine. So I think it will do well in your system. It does have a nice 32MB buffer.
