XBox 360 Connection Problem
Hi and good morning all,
I have an "extremely" annoying problem. I have searched the interweb and many different forms and have not encountered anyone with the issue I seem to be having. I am currently using my Xbox 360(slim) as an extender to my HTPC. I have ran the setup to pair the Xbox 360 with the HTPC, and that works smoothly. The problem that I am having is, whenever the HTPC goes to sleep and I turn on the Xbox the Xbox will wake the HTPC, but it does not connect. The Xbox gives me a connection error, and if left alone 3-5 mins later will connect to the HTPC (I know not really a problem more than it is starting to become an annoyance, had this issue for more than a year). I have tried all the suggestions I have read, from removing the extender, deleting the certificates, and resetting the network service list, but the problem still exist. The strangest part is when i connected through wifi this problem does not happen. It connects to HTPC w/o any error or without having to sit and wait. I thought to my self maybe the ethernet switch was the culprit, so i connected the Xbox to the router and this turned out not to be the case. I exhausted any ideas to what could be causing this issue, so it would be really and greatly appreciated to get others thought on what could be causing this problem. I know the problem is not major but i would just enjoy a smooth and seamless experience. Thanks in advance.

By default Win 7 sets WIFI with a higher priority than WIRED.
Set WIRED to top priority. Here is a good HowTo.....

Thanks for the quick reply, I failed to mention that it is windows 8.1.
I will give it a try and see if that fixes the problem. Its not a problem of it not connecting at all on a wired network, it just strange that it gets the connection error, sits there for 3-5 min then connects.

Also you might want to disable green in your 8.1's NIC

Priority of Network adapter looks pretty much the same in 8, as 7.

A different idea would be to adjust the sleep settings in Win8.

Sorry, for a late reply. Antivirus is the Windows Defender, I did not install 3rd party software. In the NIC the Flow is set for RX & TX Enabled. Wol & Shutdown Linkspeed is set for 10MBps First. You mentioned the sleep settings. I have it set, i guess for just regular sleep. Do you suggest setting it maybe for hybrid sleep? or what would you recommend?

1) I haven't heard any complaints with Defender.fiftiey5o wrote:Sorry, for a late reply. Antivirus is the Windows Defender, I did not install 3rd party software. 2) No 3rd party firewall...good
3) Flow in and out enabled...good
4A) Wol linkspeed 10mbps first....
4B) Shutdown linkspeed 10mbps first.....I am not sure what you mean 10mbps First
Usually the HTPC is 1000mbps and we have to set it to Auto in an attempt to match the Xbox which I believe is 100mbps, Sometimes Auto is not good enough and we have to force it to 100mbps Full Duplex (100 each direction).....
What model NIC is this? and what driver? Is this Win8 box a laptop?
Lets work through 4A and 4B before moving on to Sleep adjustments.
5) I would disable sleep all together and just let the monitor shut down.

It is a Realtek. Driver Version is 8.43.1001.2015. (recently updated the driver as well in hopes that was the issue) It is a Win 8.1 box.
I was trying to post a pic to show you, what i mean by "10 Mbps first" i was looking at the wrong location when you asked about the LinkSpeed but not really sure how. I went to the Speed & Duplex setting it is indeed set for Auto Negotiation. I may try that suggestion for the night, turning off sleep and see if it is able to connect with out errors.

Try changing the LinkSpeed from Auto to 100mpps full duplex.
Wait on the sleep settings. If you change too many things at the same time, you wont know what worked.
By the way this is how to upload a screen cap or snip.

Do a little reading before you go messing with the sleep settings.
You should be able to set this up to wakeup automatically a few minutes prior to a recording, then go back to sleep a few minutes after the recording.
search 8 xbox sleep

Here are a few ways to get into the NIC's properties from Win8
NCPA.CPL seems like the easiest. Surprise! Surprise! It works in Win7 too.
