I always thought Silicon Dust was much larger. Maybe just in the consumer market?

They're pretty much equal for all sake of argument. The difference is SD sought to expand itself out, while Ceton was content remaining tied to WMC.

SD is in the hospitality/commercial market as well. No difference there.STC wrote:Ceton have always been in the commercial end of things. I think that is their bread and butter TBH.

^ Hmmm....TBH their 8 (2x4) tuner 1U offering isn't a big player, it's quite a recent thing too. Ceton have been in the game for years and do the full size rack mount mega-tuner stuff.
Semantics though....

On your LinkedIn profile link...which they (Ceton) fill out, they state they were founded in 2006. SD is listed as 2007.STC wrote:Ceton founded in 1992.
Was SD 93? I can't find that info. I believe SD only recently got into the commercial game.

That's what they morphed into to serve us mortals.
Before that they were commercial only and incorporated in 92.
The Linkdin links were to show employee levels.

I tried to get Ceton to send me info on exactly what some of their commercial equipment looks like. But they never sent me anything. They just said "it's geared towards the industry customers".STC wrote:^ Hmmm....TBH their 8 (2x4) tuner 1U offering isn't a big player, it's quite a recent thing too. Yes Ceton is only one year older than SD but they have always been in the commercial market, the home market was more of an afterthought whereas silicondust was more in the home market and only recently entered the commercial market. So yes with respect to the commercial market Ceton is an older company.

Newegg has ETH's for sale. No Echo's.
Amazon has Echo's, but only one company has them for $179.
There's a few used Echo's on eBay. One new one for $393.
Kind of looks like the end, to me.
Too bad the HDHomerun Prime never was made with 6 tuners. I haven't heard about any development on it for several years now. And probably won't since Windows Media Center has been abandoned.
I keep waiting for somebody to announce a product as a replacement. One that doesn't consume hours a week in maintenance.

It isn't over until the fat lady sings. Pure conjecture at this point. Xbox TV may spring new products to life. That is conjecture too.

Amazon seems to have everything but the Echo, which says "In stock August 28th". Amazon didn't show Ceton as the default seller, but if you click more options, they're still there In Stock.

Still not a peep out of Ceton on any short or long term plans. I have to say, I'm very surprised. Are they waiting to see what SD does in the end? Are they hard at work and have sealed lips? Are they throwing in the towel?
I think the longer they wait to discuss future plans the harder it will be for them to catch up. But, they owe us nothing but they were the ones to tweet on May 4 that they are working on new products.
