Hyper-V + Digital Cable Advisor

#1

Post by peterfnet » Mon Jul 13, 2015 2:02 pm

I'm looking to bury Media Center in a Hyper-V VM. I've migrated all the other responsibilities of my former Windows 8 media server (Plex, TeamSpeak server, network shares, etc) to Server 2012 R2 box.

Of course, the Digital Cable Advisor is failing in Hyper-V due to the lack of HDCP output. I'd like to find a way around this since I only plan on accessing protected content from the Cable Card tuners through Xbox360 extenders. I have no intention to watch protected content through the box locally.

Since I can't complete the wizard, I'm starting to think I could slap it into submission by migrating the old media server into hyper-v and keep the original Media Center setup. Maybe that will break something in the existing DRM setup.

Anyone have any experience with this or suggestions? I'm just looking to limp this along until I can test out Silicon Dust's cablecard DVR.

Whoa, thanks! I'll report back the results for 8.1.

The procedure worked to satisfy the DCA, but now I'm stuck in the guide-data-limbo like many others.....
Thanks for your help, you got me one step closer to getting this working!
