Infinitv on different VLANs

#1

Post by bradley80 » Tue Mar 17, 2015 8:52 pm

Hello all. I have a Inifinitv6 eth box, and i'm trying to connect a WMC machine in another office to it. they're on different network segments. The InfinitTV is on 10.100.xxx.xxx, and the WMC machine in the other office is on 10.10.xxx.xxx. Is there any possible way to get the WMC machine to see the InfiniTV? I've searched all over for this, but can't find anything on this.

Subnet of 255.0.0.0 in your IP config in the "other" office should do the trick, assuming there are no managed switches/routers in between that would be blocking things.

This will not work. WMC is designed for local use, and you will run into issues with the tuner not being discoverable due to broadcast traffic, and also WMDRM has requirements as far as router hops and latency.

How about a one-to-one NAT? 10.100.1.1 <--> 10.10.1.1

I doubt it would work, as tuner discovery is based on broadcast traffic which wouldn't pass. It's definitely something we would not consider supported.

Hello Bradley80,
I've been working on something similar using my Inifinitv6 PCIe card, (streaming live tv in Windows media center across the internet.) I can't confirm anything until later this evening but I'm made atleast a partial break through using this program: SoftEther VPN Project it is a free open source VPN system that allows L2TPv3 or layer2 vpns that should allow you to see your tuner. No, guarantees it will work in your case but hey at least its worth a try.

Update: I was able to successfully stream live TV over the internet using windows media center. I'll post a new thread on exactly how this is accomplished but from the experience I would say if you are able to setup SoftEther correctly it should also solve your Vlan issue.
