Xbox extender 29/59
So I've been using an Xbox as an extender and lately and I see the image bouncing on certain channels the biggest offender is Cartoon Network adult swim shows. The issue happens on the pc itself and also the Xbox but far worse on the Xbox. I have tried changing the resolutions and find 1080i to be the most tolerable. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what can be done to help with this.
Was wondering if adding a stand alone video processor would make any difference something like a darbee.

Over here Cartoon Network is broadcast on 58 in Standard Definition (480p?), and also on 227 HD (720p) and also on 1525 HD (1080p)
The channel you are likely having some trouble with (as I did too) is SD 58.
Open up WMC/Guide/Edit Channels and uncheck the SD version of your channel. You might not need the (720p) version either.
If you want an easier software for editing, get a copy of GuideTool, pay the 5 bucks for the backup feature.

I know for a fact I'm not tuning the ad version of the channel. I'll have to see if there are 2 hd versions If there are 2 different hd versions this is news to me as if only ever seen 1 sd and 1 hd

If the progressive_frame flag in the MPEG header is wrong, the picture won't get processed correctly and you'll see visible artifacts. There is no fixing it. That said, the higher the source and output resolution, the less noticable the artifacts will be.

I have noticed that if I switch the Xbox to output 1080i it is much more tolerable than when set to 1080p. When set to 1080p it is unwatchable to me but my wife doesn't notice. I must be more sensitive to the motion.

What do you get when you click edit source for channel 226? Are any of the sources channel 69? I must have a different package than you that gives me a 3rd source for CN on 1525.
What frequency are the 2 that you have?
When you go in to WMC Edit Channels,,,Is 69 unchecked?

None of the sources are channel 69. I'm unsure of the frequency I'll have to check late tonight I'll be away from home. Yeah Comcast doesn't even offer a third option for Cartoon Network in my area. if I check their listings it only has 69 and 226.

If I watch directly from the pc and open 411 info and go through the pages till I see frame rate it is definitely switching from 59 to 29 rapidly and when it stops switching the image is steady and as soon as it starts switching the image bounces slightly. It does this on other channels as well but CN is the easiest to spot on shows like family guy

So much for my idea. I guess it cant be the problem that I have seen before on mine.
The 2 most popular video card makers are Nvidia and Amd. Not sure if this is still true but when I bought my AMD I was told that the effects of 29/59 show less on AMD. Are you dealing with a laptop? or a desktop?

I have an nvidia gt430 that exhibits this behavior but I'm also seeing this on extenders too.

With the pc the picture doesn't really bounce but what looks like the bottom line of pixels comes and goes. On the extender the whole image bounces slightly up and down. All this happens when the frame rate is switching. When the frame rate is steady at either 59 or 29 the images is steady

As I stated in post #5, you can't fix it. If the progressive_frame flag is wrong, it's wrong, and that's all there is to it.

Can't be avoided using WMC or extenders. But if you use a HTPC, it can be setup to use another video player to play back recorded wtv files and you can utilize different mpeg2 decoders. I watch everything except live tv using Zoom Player with LAV decoders and have virtually eliminated the crazy unbearable visual problems of 29/59 on my main Tv. Doesn't help at all with the other 3 Tv's using extenders though.

The 29/59 problem is an unchangeable/unfixable fact of life. The advice I received in 2012, which I accepted, was, AMD does a better job of covering up the 29/59 issue. My question is.....Why are both you guys with obvious 29/59 issues still using NVidia? Do you enjoy watching a screwed up picture on your extender?
If there is anyone out there that is using NVidia and has managed to cover the issue up somehow..... please tell these guys how to do it.
I take that back. Go get a 750, stop bit-ching and start twea-king http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... 733#p83733
