How do I add another tuner?

#1

I have 2 working tuners, how do I add a third one?
Is there a way to just install card, install drivers, then run WMC and scan the new tuner for channels?

Install the new tuner and any software/drivers, then rerun TV setup in WMC settings.

Ok.
Some people talk of keeping EPG guides. I have not modded ours. They mention issues like extra lists, then talk of merging channels?
What are those details being mentioned?

What model tuner are you using now and what model are you looking to add?

The talk of merging channels is some tuners (HD Homerun for example) will list each sub channel out (5, 5.1, 5.2)

They might also have a cable card tuner, which channel 5 is 5, channel 5.1 is 105 and 5.2 is 115. They will merge 5.1 and 105, so they only appear as one channel in the channel guide.

If your are using a cable card tuner and wanted to add a second cable card tuner, then you wouldn't need to worry about this.

To add on to the answer to the original question, depending on how many shows and the number to times they play, it can take a while for MC to finish configuring the additional tuners

Having problems with the avermedia m791.

Windows 7 detects and installed card, device manager looks good, the card only has one entry, while the m780 has 3 entries, oh well.

WMC says it has no signal to the m791 tuner?
I did plug it into the ATSC coax, ran it twice.
This time I plugged it into the TV coax connector.

Another prior time I told it not use the auto setup, went to manual, WMC wanted to setup a set top cable box??
No way out skip, so I say ok. WMC says can not detect the IR for the remote. I start over, go back to manual setup, select sattelite.

I just do not have cable or satellite, cant detect non existent IR for remote, so I dont know what to do, channel scanning takes a long time.
Does the avermedia REQUIRE both TV and ATSC coax hooked to the antenna???

IS there any way to just add a tuner without going thru this longggg process over and over that fails for the m791?

ok, I went back to manual, this time got the antenna selection, clicked that and set it.

BUT, ok, it can see channel signal strength for all 3 tuners, BUT!!! WMC is only using the vbox usb tuner.
I unpluged the cable from the back and NO TV signal.

Why is that? Do i need to unplug the vbox and reboot?
Why cant I view any TV with the VBOX USB unplugged?
Also how can I edit the channels to use a different tuner?
IS WMC just defaulting always to the vbox??

Ok I discovered how to edit channels, then edit sources.
I can then disable and also select any of the 3 tuners.

The avermedia m791 tuner is HORRIBLE. I have swapped antenna cables and it is still horrible.
The vbox 3560 and the avermedia m780 work fine.
The avermedia m791 is pixelated constantly, halts, sound drops, totally unusable and most channels do not work at all.

So I will have to contact the ebay seller about this defective card.
Unless any of you know anything else?

Ebay refunded me immediately, never seen that before.

"This return is now completed Good News! For being a regular buyer on eBay and a valued customer, we've issued a $8.00 refund to your PayPal account, and you get to keep the item too. "

Still that left me several hours of pain trying to determine what happened and still dont have a third tuner.
