Good MediaCenter Remote (Harmony 300)
For those curious... I'd like to throw out there that even though it's a "low-end" remote, as compared to the rest of the product line, the Harmony 300 makes a GREAT MediaCenter remote.

You can find them anywhere (Amazon, RadioShack, Target, etc...). They feel very nice. Good weight. Button layout is good (ie, Info button on the right and the Exit/Back button on the left). Awesome programming & teach/learning technology.
And if you're on a budget, they are a great low-end price ($30-$40USD depending on location).
Just food for thoughts.

I agree...I use the Harmony 300 and I think it works like a champ. If only it was rechargeable...but then it wouldn't be so cheap.

I wish Logitech would do something about the programming software...

Totally, 100%, emphatically, unreservedly agreed. It's horrible to program any Harmony remote...dduk wrote:I wish Logitech would do something about the programming software...

Really?? Why? I don't have any other type to base it on; but, I think the programming software for my 300 is great!

I too have to say the software for the 300 is great. But I think the other remotes use some other kind of software, and I can't speak as to how good/bad that software is.

What would make the 300 software perfect for me would be if I could key-in commands and have it translate to an IR signal. Other then that I love it!

I have both, and primarily use the ms 'tactile' one for general TV. Only when I want to play with lighting or change modes, do I use my Harmony One.

I love my Harmony One.. The software ..sucks.
It needs to be simple and straight forward but it isn't. There are like 3 different profiles for Windows Media Center.. Why?
Can't they just make one profile that just works? I had a heck of a time getting it right and I still need to go back in and get it the way I want it.. I just went with the profile they way they had it for now as I just wanted it to work.
The software for the 300 is an online based configuration vs. a Installer based one for the Harmony One. From what I have read the software for the 300 is much easier/simpler.
I have to say though that the Logitech Remotes are some of the best available for Media Center. This is the one area Microsoft is lacking in.. All the hardware they make and no good Media Center Remote? Why?.. I wish some of the side show remotes they had would have made it to retail but they never did make it.
Alot of people swear by the Original Media Center Remotes and I guess they work well. I just think they are darn UGLY..IMO.
I do have one question though .. Does the Logitech 300 have backlighting? and will it work with a Linksys DMA-2100 extender? If so I might get one for my bedroom setup.
TIA,

No backlight but it DOES work well with the DMA 2200. In fact, the DMA is far less laggy with the Harmony than the remote that came with it. Go figure.

Whats the best Harmony Remote that will work with a DMA-2100 that is backlit.?. I'm getting old and the backlighting is a necessity for me.
Thanks for your reply.

Have you tried a regular rubber button MS remote? They really are great. Backlit too. Still around on eBay usually. I use one in the bedroom and one on my main rig.

The original hour-glass version of the Media Center Remote was awesome. It was so good in-fact that ATT stole it for their UVerse remote! Though, I guess it makes sense considering the UVerse software is all MediaCenter API Driven.

@STC - That's the same remote control that I'm using and I absolutely love it!
I also use the Microsoft Media Center Wireless Keyboard:

Me too! It may not be the most flash looking thing but it's perfectly functional...for me anyway.stonethecrows wrote:They look cool. This is what I use - note the TV power button top left, some other similar looking ones don't have one.
