What do you see happening with the Prime with the official signing of STELAR?
Do you see the cable companies pulling some stunt such as removing all non-cable owned equipment from the networks(similar to rules with non company owned cable modems)?

While the bill allows cable companies to integrate security into their cable boxes, the bill has no effect on any existing navigation device that utilizes CableCARD technology, nor does it sunset the requirement for cable companies to provide and support CableCARDs for 3rd-party navigation devices. So basically, this will not impact existing tuners in any way. However, the bill opens the door for downloadable security. Once the downloadable security standard is identified and implemented, tuner manufacturers will be able to manufacture tuners that do not depend on CableCARDs to perform conditional access functions. It's a win for everybody. Everybody except tuner manufacturers that don't want to adapt to changing market conditions (e.g., Hauppauge).

Agreed. I've read the legislation and the laws that it pertains to; so have a few other people, and there has been a bit of internet discussion that concludes the same thing. The laws are actually quite straightforward if you spend a little time reading them. Additional legislation will be required before we loose cablecard support.

I am interested in 'downloadable security' and I hope SD gets involved in making the next-gen tuners.
