WMC Netflix still alive in a post-api world
So apparently Netflix shut down its API to most third party apps recently. WMC was notably not one of the apps on the list that would still be able to access it. But despite the API officially shutting down today, WMC Netflix still seems intact. Yay!

It's only a matter of time, not a question of if, until Netflix changes something on their back end though :-\
The lack of proper TV season support killed that app for me though and made me switch to alternatives. Well, that and the fact I watch more streaming than just Netflix which you can't get in wmc.

If it ever breaks for good there is always this alternative:

Incorrect- TWO input changes--- one to go to your secondary device, and then another to go back.

Or 25 presses then RDP to find out what the heck has gone wrong with WMC Netflix? A tweak here, a reboot there, WAF in the crapper
You'd actually use pretty much the same effort to traverse the WMC menu to Netflix or flick your TVs input over to a Roku that is already 'on' and in Netflix and ready to go instantly.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy it's still semi-working but I'm just trying to point out that you can still have your cake and eat it without too much of a fuss by taking the task away from WMC. Using a Roku for Netflix knowing it just works rather than relying on hope that something hasn't caused WMC Netflix to dig a hole and jump in it is a very refreshing thing.

We have a Roku 3 hooked up to the TV as well, but more often than not we just launch the WMC Netflix app.

I was joking about the two button presses..
After all, the google chromecast, for example, automatically switches input using hdmi-cec when I want to wtch something... and I could easily set up WMC to do the same thing when I turned my htpc on, if necessary. So I've got my backup plan too, not an extra input-click necessary!

Nope. Also 720p max, no profiles, no search without a 3rd party hack. Was a great app 5 years ago, not so much anymore.STC wrote:Nice you have a backup route.
Out of interest, does WMC Netflix do DD+ ?

You can definitely search in WMC Netflix, unless I'm missing what you mean by 'no search'.

Really? Have you tried it lately? It was broken months ago and only works now if you run a 3rd party service to spoof a server address.

I will have to try tonight, entirely possible that I haven't searched as recently as I thought I had.mdavej wrote:Really? Have you tried it lately? It was broken months ago and only works now if you run a 3rd party service to spoof a server address.
