Well color me surprised. If it doesn't get pulled in a later build; and doesn't have the sleep problems 8.x has, then hopefully I can upgrade the HTPC to this when it hits RTM
Was it in there by default, or you had to add it like in 8.x?

I added it the same way as in 8/8.1 - used the same key in fact.Ed wrote:Well color me surprised. If it doesn't get pulled in a later build; and doesn't have the sleep problems 8.x has, then hopefully I can upgrade the HTPC to this when it hits RTM

Interesting, is it the same version as the 8 version, or does the version show as different?bjstick wrote:I added it the same way as in 8/8.1 - used the same key in fact.Ed wrote:Well color me surprised. The WMC version matches the NT version number in 7/8/8.1/looks like now (6.4) so I still wouldn't bank on any significant changes

The version shows as different but it appears to just display the Windows version. System Info now says the OS is Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, as does the watermark.JTScribe wrote:Interesting, is it the same version as the 8 version, or does the version show as different?bjstick wrote:I added it the same way as in 8/8.1 - used the same key in fact.Ed wrote:Well color me surprised. Yeah, seeing that it reverts stuff to 'Win 8.x' and uses WMC 8.x keys makes me think this is just an oversight that it can still be added at this early stage. You never know though. At best, they keep it like it is and just update the stuff to reflect 'Windows 10 w/ WMC'; at worst, they disable the ability to add it, and it stays as a Win 8.x only feature/upgrade/add-on. It's too early to get hopes up IMO.

MSFT knows they are going to have trouble getting people to give up Win7, maybe this is one step in eliminating reasons for not moving to Win10.

That's odd - when I run the Windows Technical Preview Setup, I get this:
Windows Media Center is installed on this PC
The edition of Windows Technical Preview your're trying to upgrade to doesn't support Windows Media Center.
with a confirm button.
That suggests to me that Windows Media Center won't run on the Windows 10 TP, much less that it would be included with it.

Maybe they caught on and shut down the upgrades from the add-on server or something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Microsoft claims they want to hear from us about the windows 10 betas.. we should be loading up their forums asking for a new windows media center build for win 10, and not some old rehash
The Official Windows 10 Forums on microsoft: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... tp-winipp/
Tell them we want a new media center in windows 10!
others have already started posting for it.. we need to make a dent so they pay attention!
(fyi.. for those curious.. do NOT install win 10 preview as it removes windows media center from the system and cant be installed in win 10 right now)

The installation notes state that Media Center will be removed if installed. However, once Windows is installed you can "Add features to Windows Technical Preview" and put in your Media Center key. Many of the files in ehome that come over take a timestamp of the Media Center installation but a number of the config files have a date of 9/13/14, the same date as the files on the Windows install media. This leads me to believe that the files are at least coming from a repository built for this tech preview. If not, they'd have the same dates as the Windows 8 install.kingwr wrote:That's odd - when I run the Windows Technical Preview Setup, I get this:

Sorry, I didn't know where else to post this. NTTF.
Has anyone seen a hint that WMC will be included w/ Windows 10 rather than requiring an upgrade/purchase?
I've done w/out on W8 as I can't justify paying an additional $100 to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.
I never understood MS's thinking on that as WMC was touted as one of the reasons to get Vista or 7.
I miss it but haven't found an acceptable alternative.
