GuideTool problems

#1

Post by rpohara » Sun Sep 14, 2014 1:03 am

I've just installed the latest version of the GuideTool and am anxious to use it. However, when I attempt to connect to WMC, I get the message "Failed to create TV Setup... connected host failed to respond..."

This happens whether I am running it on the same PC as media center (connecting to localhost) or from another PC on my local network (where the IP address reported for my media center PC is correct). I have WMC running when I do this.

I've tried enabling inbound connections to TCP 5733, but that had no effect.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Bob O'Hara

Did you try disabling the firewall entirely?

Well, that makes it work, thanks!

But I really don't like leaving the firewall off. Has anyone developed the appropriate rules that allow GuideTool to work?

Or am I just being paranoid?

Mostly stock Windows firewall rules do not impede my use of GuideTool.

Thanks... I disabled the firewall when I used the GuideTool, then reenabled it when I was done. Not elegant, but it works!
