New Echo install and won't connect

#1

Post by pc210018 » Sat Sep 06, 2014 1:55 am

I have two other Xbox360's that work fine. This new Echo went though all the add extender steps until the last one where it connects. The Event log shows a timeout trying to connect. The add extender page that shows all the extenders status's keeps changing for the echo from "ready to use" to "setup but not available". And the screen on the Echo goes from "Connecting" to a blank screen and then back to connecting.
I have disabled my virus protection and turned off the MS firewall and the one in the router (ASUS RT-N56U). Router running the latest firmware
I used another PC running media center and it won't connect there either.

Win7 64 bit
I7
Asus P8Z77-V LX
ASUS RT-N56U

Echo needs to have a DHCP Reservation in the router. Basically this is an IP that is reserved or set aside for your Echo.

Log in to the router and select Advanced/DHCP Server. Make sure Enable DHCP Server is turned on. Turn on Enable Manual Assignment. Click the arrow box "under MAC Address" Select your Echo's IP address. In the Host Name Box, give it a friendly name such as Echo1. Then click the plus to add it to the list. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Apply.

I have the same router, but my firmware is from that Russian Guy named Padavan, so your screen might not look exactly the same.

No, it doesn't.

No, it doesn't.
If it doesn't need that, what does it need then?

It doesn't need it. I'm not saying it can't use it, but it doesn't need it. It grabs an IP address dynamically and works just fine without the router being told to give it a specific address.

I think I get your point. Would the wording be more correct to say DHCP reservation improves the Echo's boot time?

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. But it is turned off.
I went up to my daughters this afternoon and tried it on her network. And it acted the same way. So that is three different PC's and 2 different networks and 2 different routers.

Probably a bad Echo then. Return it and get another one or an Xbox 360

There is one other thing to check before declaring it "Dead".

When it is stuck at connecting, go over to the port on the router or switch that Echo is plugged into. Does it have a link light or not?
