Video Error

Video Error
VIDEO ERROR - Files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart Media Center and/or restart the computer.
I know this has been fixed before, but my limited knowledge in this area is either keeping me from implementing the fix properly or I have tried too many fixes or perhaps out of date fixes.
I have a PC running Win 7 that has been running WMC for years. Hard drives check out fine and I can watch all my recorded TV on the PC itself with no problem.
The problem is that none of the shows will play on my Xbox 360 or my 2 HP MediaSmart Connect extenders. I watched a recorded show about 8 hours ago on a TV hooked to one of the MediaSmarts just fine, but now I can't get it to work no matter what I try. The only thing I can think of that happened in between is that one of my kids watched an ABC show on the computer. There were no updates to Windows during that time.
Any suggestions?

Since you didn't mention what you tried, I'll start with asking you if you tried this? Although I am not sure if that has an effect on viewing through extenders.
Do you receive the same error when viewing on the HTPC itself?

Yes, oddly enough, that audio bug will cause extenders to get the same error.smcmillan2 wrote:Although I am not sure if that has an effect on viewing through extenders.

System restore to a recent save point might be the best/easiest way to recover.
If you are running your HTPC as a headless install without a monitor it's still necessary to load the video drivers. i3,i5 and i7 processors do video processing. WMC looks for HDCP compliant drivers. Maybe your video drivers are corrupted.

I think the OP should try what was suggested in post #2 before doing anything else.

I just submitted a new question and looked at my old posts and would have sworn that I replied to this post, but apparently I did not. So please forgive me! The above suggestion was the answer to my problem 2 years ago.
