WinSxS directory cleanup - MS official hotfix

This is sort of old news, but I didn't see any reference to it when I did a search. As you all know, the winsxs directory bloat has plagued Win7 and 2008R2 since release. And up until now, there were a few command-line "fixes" such as DISM.exe and the like... heck, even MS said "this is how the OS works - deal with it." But, nothing "official" was out there, and the un-official fixes were hit-or-miss.

It looks like MS finally made a KB hotfix for Win7 SP1 in October- and after much badgering from the community, they finally fixed it for 2008R2SP1 a few weeks ago. Here is a link to the blog post for Win7. There is a link to the 2008R2 article within this blog post as well.

I, for one, will be pleased to reclaim some space on my tiny 60GB SSD.

Good info. I did not know they had done that in October 2013. It says it saved about 2GB on mine. But my free disk space didn't increase. The article says you need to reboot for the changes to take effect, so I'll try that later today.
