GeForce GTX 460 and Nvidia driver version 337.88 - NOT good

FYI:
I did the usual NVIDIA drive update to 337.88. I've got a GeForce GTX 460, a Ceton 6 channel PCI card in a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system. Things still worked except Windows Media Center would stop and exit after maybe 20 minutes of watching a video. Sometimes there'd be an ehshell application error window.

I regressed back to NVIDIA driver 335.23 by uninstalling the new one and reinstalling the older one. Things are back to normal.... so far.

Same thing for me. I have a GTX 650 Ti, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, Ceton InfiniTV 4 tuner PCI. 335.23 WHQL worked fine, installed the next beta driver and started seeing this issue so I had to roll back to 335.23. When 337.88 WHQL came out I hoped the issue would be fixed but it is still present. I will roll back to 335.23 again.

I can't really tell if this is a known issue anywhere. I've only seen one mention of it on nVidia driver threads.

Unless you are also gaming on your htpc, there is no reason to update your video drivers. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. An htpc is the last thing on these companies' minds, and the tweaks are all for gaming.

I was directed to this thread after starting a thread with a similar problem. When I rebuilt my PC, I downloaded all the newest drivers for everything. Unfortunately, I got 337.88 in the process. Rolling back to an older driver on my nvidia GTX660 appears to have fixed my problem. I thought I had looked at every thread on win 7 green button, and missed this one. Thanks to all.

Just a random data point... installed a new GTX-750Ti EVGA card over the weekend, and installed the latest drivers from the (short) compatible drivers list (340.52). Had "video error" pops twice now over the last couple of days playing a random recorded program or even live TV. Sounds similar to above...

Reverting the drivers to 335.x tonight to see if it helps. If so, I guess Nvidia has a bad run going.

Thus far 335.23 is stable on the GTX-750Ti card, suggesting both 337.88 and 340.52 are brown-bag drivers. If it runs OK for another day after writing this, I'll believe it for sure.

I feel like the PQ of the 340 driver was better in some semi-untangible way... I may try going back a driver rev (334.89) just for comparison.. But way not bad enough to go back to video errors indeed. 340.x with this bug fixed would be a good driver...

So yes, stable with the driver rollback to 335. I've tried to open a ticket with nvidia to communicate the problem, and posted on the 340.52 forum thread over at https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... 29-14-/23/, but not too much feedback yet (nothing on the ticket opened yet).

I've settled on the 334.89 drivers for the time, they're stable. I opened a ticket with nvidia a week ago... they haven't responded or apparently even looked at the ticket yet.

After a couple of weeks on the Nvidia forum and their support ticketing stuff referencing this and other threads here, I finally got the following from them:

Thanks for the update. Apparently our lab is already investigating this issue as others have posted similar problem to our forum. We are in the process of trying to replciate the issue and once we are able to replciate then we'll escalate to development to take a look. Thanks again for bring this to our attention.

There's a lot of people posting issues with Windows apps with these drivers, including IE YouTube playback and other issues. Doubt they'll have a solution for next driver spin, but maybe at least thy know these recent versions are brown bags.

This is probably due to the 'handles leak' bug I've discovered in their newer drivers. It happens when viewing 29/59 content from your cable provider. I have a bug report submitted to NVidia and they tell me they are actively working on a fix.

So driver 344.11 released today. Haven't tried it yet. Don't see mentions of any Windows (or WMC) related fixes anywhere in release notes. Who knows how good or bad this'll be...

So far, so good.. I just updated as well. I'll put on some 29/59 in a bit and post back but from th83's testing it looks solid..

Just updated to WHQL 344.11 and all seems well so far, Handle leaks are much improved in this build. I tested with my 29/59 show and all seems good.

anybody know where the setting went for RGB/YPbPr? It used to be under "Adjust desktop color settings" but it is not there with the new drivers.

Just checked and it's still there on mine. It only shows up if it detects that your monitor/TV can support that setting. Maybe try disconnecting and reconnecting the display.

Thank you for the incite. I did a fresh install and it was there as long a I did not create a custom resolution, as soon as I do the option disappears. From now on I will make the change be for I create the resolution.
