Picture preview for recorded tv ruining Sports
Surely I'm not the only one to have a game I'm about to watch completely ruined by seeing a picture preview of a winning player being interviewed in the post game. I would think there would be an army of ticked off sports fans in an uproar to fix this but surprisingly Google search has yielded nothing. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I would manually record them and add an extra hour to what you think it will be. Then you will get the next show in the preview. This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Jerry wants to watch the Mets on VCR and Cramer comes bolting in saying something like 'can you believe the Mets blew it'. Ahh the 90's!

Huh? I'm not a sports fan, but every thumbnail I've seen is usually from the first 10-15 minutes of the recording. It's a mystery how Media Center chooses the scene for the thumbnail, but I've never seen one from later in the show than 15 minutes.

Mine are from 2:50 or around that time. I've never, ever seen it from the last part of a recording.

Maybe you could figure something out by adjusting Visual Effects. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/56 ... s-8-a.html

I seem to remember a couple of registry keys that you could delete / modify permissions on in order to adjust TV thumbnails.
There was certainly a couple during the TVPack Beta.
I'll try and dig them up (could be a wild goose chase though)

Yeah, especially since Microsoft took the old WEC/TGB site down. A bunch of information was lost there.holidayboy wrote:(could be a wild goose chase though)
In post #7, I think Crash linked to something which has nothing to do with what the OP wants to do.
I don't know of any way to stop Media Center from displaying the thumbnails, and I also can't imagine how it could be displaying the end of a sporting event... unless the sporting event was less than 15 minutes in duration.

Is this not a thumbnail preview?
It appears that thumbnail preview only appears if you are running in windowed mode. Run full screen and you don't see it.
I can't think of any other way to.......

What you showed is what the article you linked was talking about. However, I think the OP is talking about the thing I've circled in red in the picture below:Crash2009 wrote:Is this not a thumbnail preview?

I guess we will never know until he comes back. The way things are going, it'll probably be something different than both of us think. Maybe it's a symptom of Override Cable Advisor or some other trick.
Maybe Aero peek troubleshooter can figure it out. http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-tu ... aero-peek/

Thanks for the effort guys. Full screen vs non full screen didn't change anything for me... preview avatars are just slightly smaller in non full screen. Switching to manual recording seems to be the only viable option but that is kind of a pain in the balls in terms of doing it indefinitely. Still hoping for a way to get rid of picture preview avatars as I can't see any good reason to keep them...

Guntfighter. These guessing games have gone on long enough. We are going to need a screen capture or a photograph of a picture preview avatar , and upload it here.guntfighter wrote:Thanks for the effort guys. Ohh, ok... didn't know there was any confusion there.

As has been stated previously, the preview you're seeing is from the first few minutes; mine are all within 5 minutes of the start of the recording. I'm completely failing to see how it's ruining a sports recording for you. Can you elaborate on the issue more?

If you want to turn off the thumbnails then I've been able to find a quick and dirty way.
There are a couple of registry keys that I think were relevant during the TVPack Beta, but they don't seem to do what you want.
The way I turned off TV thumbnails is to delete the TVThumb.db file located in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\thmb. It's a hidden system file so make sure that they are visible. (you must close Media Center and make sure that the eh* processes including ehvid.exe aren't running in order to delete the file)
Then create a new .txt file in the same location, rename it to TVThumb.db (make sure you have file extensions visible).
Set the file to read only via the right click > properties menu, then click advanced on the same tab and tick the encrypt contents..... box
Click Apply (just encrypt the file, not the parent folder).
Open Media Center and go to Recorded TV, there should be blank boxes for all TV shows.
If you want to turn thumbnails back on then just delete the .db file that you created.
