My Xbox extender no longer connects

#1

Post by Beerman » Fri May 09, 2014 11:37 am

After working perfectly well for more than 15 months, my Xbox and my PC no longer like each other. I can't connect. Xbox says the network connection is fine (wired) but when I run the Media Center test, it fails but doesn't say why. I've uninstalled the extender, turned off Windows Firewall and antivirus (AVG Free), and read and tried every similar post here with no luck.
I'm using Windows 8 and wonder if it's possible that a recent Windows update fracked it up. Certainly, I've done nothing manually to make any changes at all to my system. It just sits there with it's Ceton InfiniTV 4 working hard like it always has. But, there must be something I've overlooked.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Can you go to a restore point in Win8 from before this problem happened?

I say that because I like your idea that a Windows update caused this behavior. I've had weirdness happen with Win7 updates, which is why I don't update.

For the AVG AV, uninstall it completely... disabling it is not enough in most situations... a definition update can easily change the behavior of the AV.. Same with MalewareBytes web link scanner....
Time is on my side.

I removed all antivirus and wasn't even using that when this started.
I'm going to try an restore point and see if that works.

Restore didn't help. I'm getting the same Configuration error. I've uninstalled the extender and no luck.
Odd thing is, I can play some videos using Xbox's video player, but I still can't connect with Media Center. So, it is seeing my Xbox and isn't a network problem (I think)

Nice try. I ended up going back to a month old image as it just wasn't worth anymore time and effort. IT's working now so I'll reimage and update and see if the update causes any problems.
