How to view copy protection flag in WMC?

#1

Post by HBGDawg » Wed Apr 30, 2014 12:34 pm

Okay, I really did search forums and Google before answering this question which I am sure has a simple answer. I suspect TWC in Austin TX is setting the copy flag to copy none on some of their local channels which I don't believe they should do. WMC refuses to record them saying they are protected. Is there a way in the Guide that I can view the copy protection flag? Any ideas on how to trick WMC into recording them when it doesn't want to?

make sure your tuner firmware is up to date. a long time ago I know the early Ceton units had an issue like this.

to actually view the flag I'm not sure, but its likely to be on the tuner info screens.

when your channel is on press 411 and the info button on a WMC remote or 411 and CTRL+D on a keyboard

Lots of folks in Austin having problems since TWC's recent transition. Check out page 2 of this thread, which points to a CGMS issue. Might be the same issue you are experiencing.

The HDHR Prime's webpage shows flags in the Tuner Status section.

It's worth noting that CCI overrides CGMS-A, but if CCI is not present, then CGMS-A is used.

I believe 4-1-1-Info shows it.
It could be CCI, CGMA-A, RC or APS

That would be very convenient, but unfortunately it's not there.

Did you scroll through all the pages in 4-1-1? I really thought it was there.

I've been through the Debug menu more times that I can count...it's not there. AFAIK, the only way to see copy protection info inside WMC is to record something, then go back and look at the synopsis, where you'll see an information icon and the words "Copy protected". And of course, you can always go directly to the tuner, but that requires going outside of WMC.

If you have the Ceton card installed (which would seem necessary if you're now trying to deal with copy-protected cable content), you can talk to the card itself through your browser at 192.168.200.1.

On the left side of the resulting interface are each of the tuners (ONE, TWO, etc.). When you select each of the tuners individually, you'll now see two sub-tabs available to provide system information and also tuning information (which allows you to manually change that tuner to any channel number to see what happens).

Well at the bottom of the left sub-tab for system information, there is the real time copy-protection code information itself as discovered by the Ceton tuner on whatever channel number you're tuned to with that tuner at that moment.
