Tearing on an Intel I3 HD 3000/2000

Win7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit, Dell Inspiron Laptop. Runs pretty good otherwise, it's just got this tearing problem. I first noticed it watching Live TV but it also shows on Recorded TV. XBMC was the first to display the problem.....WMC displays the same problem. The laptop has this oddball screen resolution 1366 X 768. I changed the settings to 1280 X 720 same problem. The laptop will go no higher than 1366 X 768. This was all done when the display was cloned to a HDMI Switcher with no other displays turned on.

Oh yeah, I tried Enabling and Disabling Vertical Synchronization, I have upgraded the chipset driver, and the Intel Management Utility.

If I change the display properties to disable the laptop screen which is (Display 1), and only display on (Display 2) which is a HD 1080 X 1920 projector, the tearing is eliminated. This leads me to believe that the laptop screen is poor quality or that it might need a different driver. Not sure if Win7 Ultimate could handle this better or if I just need the new Intel driver.

Whacha think?

Somebody found this laptop in the dumpster and sold it to me for $20 bucks. The built in display will only do 1366 X 768. It's always going to tear while watching HD. What a bunch of crap, I guess this explains why it was in the dumpster to begin with. Oh well, it Skypes OK.

When you run the monitors separate in extended mode does the problem occur?
If the native res of the pc monitor and tv are different it would make sense they cannot clone properly.

This one has got me talking to myself......
