No QAM Channel Access From Guide

I am having problems trying to access QAM channels with a new AVerMedia H837 USB AVerTV Volar Hybrid Q tuner. If I select a QAM channel directly from the guide, I get the no signal banner. If I then step off and back to the channel using the remote up/down channel buttons the reception is perfect. If I schedule a future recording, I again get the no signal banner when the recording tries to start. Once I use the remote up/down buttons to get the channel, it will record. The H837 tuner works fine on analog cable channels. I have the latest driver installed. I am getting nowhere with AVerMedia's technical support. I also have an AVerMedia A188 Duet and it works well on both QAM and analog channels. I have increased the WeakSignalDroppedThreshhold but it does not help. Has anyone encountered and solved a problem like this. I can't find anything similar in the forums.
