Slow performance in WMC

howdy,

Odd behavior that started today, WMC started taking super long to change channels (>30 sec). It also was taking a long time to go to recorded shows or anything else. It was recording something a show, so I stopped it and rebooted. it was fine for a few then started acting up again.

I've rebooted once more and so far it's ok. oh and the shows it was recording are not listed in the recorded shows section.

Any ideas?

Your profile says you have a Ceton tuner, but it doesn't say if it's internal or external. If it's external, have you tried unplugging the power cord for a few seconds and then plugging it back in?

Also, it may be a good idea to scan the computer for malware.

I would start by checking the hard drive health.

ah. i did that profile when there was just the one ceton product

it's internal. I thought about hdd as well. I'll start looking for diagnostic tools to see what's going on there

Next time this happens look at Resource Monitor. You can launch it from Task Manager. Go to the Disk tab and them Storage at the bottom. You want to look at Disk Queue Length. If this number is over 2 or 3, then you will see lag in your interface and even video. A high disk queue length can happen when you are recording to many shows and running commskip at the sametime and watching a recording.

Actually, for best performance, the disk queue should never exceed 1.0. When it is higher than 1.0, that means that processes are waiting for a response from the disk.
