Bets on Anniversary Firmware Update?

#1

Post by dabretty » Mon Feb 10, 2014 9:29 pm

Just noticed we're approaching a year since the last firmware update (official of 3/4/13, if you exclude the 3/20/13 one that was later pulled). Anybody feeling lucky, thinking that maybe we'll get tossed a bone on the year anniversary of the last firmware?

I think it's doubtful, but hey ... they did say that they were still supporting this thing. It seems like there are relatively easy fixes (low-hanging pieces of fruit) for them to pursue, such that they'd want to just make a few minor changes to simply cut down on annoying support tickets, if nothing else. The fact that they haven't released a thing makes me wonder if they've just flat-out lost the internal talent to perform such function (firmware updates).

I'll bet against it. $5.00 anyone?

If you're setting the date as 3/04/14, I'll take the over.

Lost their talent - maybe, cutting their losses - most likely in my opinion. The smart bet would be against any future updates.

I finally filled out a review a couple of weeks ago on amazon advising new buyers reconsider until Ceton proves they are still actually supporting this with updates and not just ticket generation and the odd troubleshooting. If Ceton wants to sell their remaining stock, the least they can do is provide some bug fixes to the people that paid twice the current price, 12 months ago and have been putting up with bugs ever since.

Maybe the better question is, would anybody take the under? Where's Sammy2?! Maybe I'm getting my forums mixed up (I know he was the biggest Ceton cheerleader on avsforum, I thought here too).

Common sense tells me that if there was something to update then they would have by now.

Q3.

(if you don't get it, take comfort in understanding that the Ceton guys do...)

Sammy2 is that you?

I think more than a few of us have discovered deficiencies that haven't been addressed (yet) in firmware. For me, any movie (premium) channel is very choppy and unwatchable on the Echo. That's far from the perfect product you suggest this is.

Sammy finally came around to reality. I remember seeing some posts (not sure if it was here or AVS) where he was finally agreeing that the Echo has some big flaws. I thought he was a shill for a long time.

I'll take 5 if you give me 10 to 1.

So, you're going to pay me 50 cents if when I win?

Did I get that backwards? (damm dyslexia). What I was thinking was you pay $50.00 if they do an update. Either way, its a crap shoot. I believe there will be no more updates.....Unless you want to buy Makryger's androiko.

Too bad this isn't an interesting bet... the Echo is dead in terms of any development. With the pending litigation going on, I can assume no new product launches until that's over with. We haven't seen any fixes in basically a year and Ceton has lost some talent along the way. If I were them, I'd be hard pressed to find any compelling reason to work on it, particularly when a lot of it points back to freescale.

I try to stay away from the bashing but I have to say Ceton are ridiculous.
If they were serious about the product they would have at least shot an update or two out shortly after the Android cancellation.

I have two Xbox360s that I'd replace tomorrow if I even got a glimpse of hope from Ceton. Brutal.

How a product can be out for 14 months and can't play an x264/MP4 without being choppy blows my mind.

Does My Channel Logos work well with the Echo? And what is androiko (I didn't find anything coming up for Makryger's androiko on Google).

Yeah, Echo with Android and zero support. I'll jump on that grenade.

Thanks a lot Ceton, you really let us all down.

So funny how the last positive update came out 1 week before the hardware beta refund date.
And how the last firmware update came out just a week after that.

It is disgusting to be played by a company like this.

Oh well, live and learn. As a consumer product company, Ceton is essentially dead at this point, clearing out inventory, and looking for the next field they can dabble in (like the Gibson thing they're getting sued over).

They obviously aren't serious about the product.
It is a dead lemon and they've cut it loose.
They aren't going to spend another dime improving any of the many major problems we all got suckered into accepting on the promise that it would all be fixed in the future.
