System File Checker - Corrupt files found

#1

Post by pd veeps » Thu Jan 30, 2014 4:14 pm

I ran "sfc /scannow" and it's telling me I have corrupt files that were unable to be fixed and to look in the"cbs.log" file.

The log is huge and I don't know what to look for to find what's corrupt. Is there something I can easily search for in the file?

Thanks

The file may just be locked? Stop all the services related to Media center and see if it unlocks it?

I used the info provided here https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833. For me my issue was MCL XL using big logos seems to modify some stuff that this can't fix, disabling big logos fixed my problems.

I'm using MCL XL as well. Must be the issue. I uninstalled it but the logos remained in the registry and guide.

Here is what the sfcdetails shows

Ya that's pretty much what mine said. I had a spare windows PC I pulled the file from and used the instructions from that link to replace it. However afterwards I noticed my logos shrunk, that's when I noticed that was the problem. I did not uninstall MCL just disabled big logos. I ran SFC scan again and all was good. No more crashes or other odd behavior.

When you make changes by using the Guide tab in MCL XL, it modifies resources within the Microsoft.Media.Center.Shell.dll. This will change the hash on the file. SFC will pick it up as corrupted, but it's only because the file hash is different than the one that was shipped with Windows. The file isn't corrupted though. Enabling Big Logos also makes changes to the Microsoft.Media.Center.Shell.dll file. If you'd like to get back to an unmodified state where the DLL will no longer show as corrupted, the MCL team can help you out by using their contact form: http://www.mychannellogos.com/contact-us Reverting back to an unmodified DLL will revert any guide customizations you made though.

I finally fixed the corrupt file issue. Thanks everyone for your help. The mini guide defaulted back to 2 rows after I uploaded a clean file. All my logos from my channel guide stayed the same.
