Echo with a smart/Eco power strip

Does anyone else use this type of setup with their echo and experience random problems? I've done this for use of the sleep timer and it works well except occasionally the echo will have HDMI issues or issues acquiring signal for a channel. I'm not certain the strip is the problem(unplugging it versus pressing the power button) but this didn't happen until it was added it seems.

Adding a cheap HDMI switch, reverting to the stable firmware and switching to native resolution seems to have resolved my issues.
