Playing recorded TV in WMC just repeats the first second of audio over and over, like an endless stutter or echo.
Playing the same file with windows media player works fine.

Using HDMI Audio out? If so the issue is a Microsoft's bug that has apparently been around for a while (and I would assume is unlikely to be fixed). You have to either set windows speakers to stereo or uncheck 'exclusive mode' in the HDMI audio settings.
