Windows Media Center Crashes but only for one user
Ok So I am having a weird problem where windows media center encounters an unexpected error on startup and then crashes. This only happens on one specific user. The problem is that this user is the HTPC user account. I can always just delete this account and recreate it. But I would like to avoid that as I have some other customizations I don't want to have to reset.
I have windows home server 2012 and I tried reloading the OS from a couple of days ago when everything was working but that did not fix the problem...
And ideas?

So I figured it out. There apparently is a problem recording on my network share. The new user temporarily fixed the problem as it did not connect to the network share automatically. The problem repeated itself once the shared folders were attached.
Now to begin the process of reading files one by one until I can find the one which is causing the problem.
Anyone here know a faster way to pinpoint the problem file?

You could move half of the recordings to a new (unmonitored) folder on the same drive and check if you see the issue in MC.
Then move half of the other ones etc to help narrow it down.
Have you tried looking at the contents of the shared recorded tv folder in explorer using the details view?
You might possibly spot a strange file size / missing date info or something.
Also worth checking that thumbnails are created for all of them in the other explorer views I guess....

Thanks I will try those. I already have all of the files moved out to another un monitored folder for the time being. Had to get the system back up quickly to keep the WAF up. Wife was not a happy camper when she couldn't watch her shows on her first day off in a while.

Adam I am using recording as of noun, I.e. I have a problem file located on my network share. I am aware that you can't actively record to a network share.

Ah. Got it. A "problem recording".
As in, a "trouble child". Sorry 'bout that.
