UK guide data not downloading

#1

Post by mark1234 » Fri Oct 18, 2013 9:05 pm

Hi,

Anyone else having issues with the guide data not updating? I'm not getting any errors, but am down to 9 days data, ending on 27/10. I've forced a download, but no joy. It's normally a solid 14 days of data I have.

Me too. I do an explicit download once per week, and this morning was the day. It apparently succeeded, but was suspiciously quick, and when I checked the EPG, it was apparent that it had downloaded nothing. Sigh.

It is making MediaPortal seem more attractive.

I have been contemplating a move to MediaPortal for several months, and have installed a trial version to evaluate. I have played with it for a couple of hours, but pressures of other things this year have meant that I have not been able to give it an extensive test. But two features of MediaPortal that I really like are:

(1) It can receive the broadcast EPG, including the EPG for the DVB-T2 channels (something that Win7 MC cannot do).

(2) It can perform the "record a MUX" trick, by which I mean that it needs only one tuner to record one, some, or all of the channels in a single MUX (again, something that Win7 MC cannot do). If you have several tuners, the pre-padding and post-padding is virtually always honoured, without having manually to extend the length of the recording.

However, it is not clear to me that it can handle series recording satisfactorily, or avoid recording duplicates.

I came on here to report the same issue. Although I've switched over to MedaiPortal I use mc2xml to import the 14 day EPG as the OTA EPG only has 8 days worth. Looks like I'll have to set up OTA EPG as the MS offering will become zero shortly.

****** Hey - everyone who's got this problem follow Wyerd's link and click "me too" and the arrow to get the priority increased, or they will just think there are only 2 of us who use it(instead of the 8 that still do). **********

I've added to the Connect ticket. I'm number 7, how many UK users are left? It was a bit quiet so I was wondering if it was just me affected this time.

Out of interest, why do you download manually instead of just letting Media Centre sort itself out?

It is because I switch on my ADSL router only when I am using the internet. This means that circa 90% of the time the internet is switched off.

When I first started using Media Center, I selected the option to "Download the EPG when an internet connection is available", but I found that my HTPC was waking up at times that I was not expecting. I came to the conclusion that it woke up to download the EPG at the time of day when it had previously established a successful internet connection, and if that failed, it then woke up again some hours later to make another attempt. So I instead selected the option to "Manually download the EPG".

As you may have surmised, I am not interested in using my TV to watch crap astonishingly entertaining video clips streamed from the internet.

I would imagine that Microsoft have a pretty accurate idea of how many people in the UK still use Media Center, simply by counting the number of different Windows licences that download the EPG for a UK postcode.

Yes, I am of the opinion that the request to download the EPG sends to the download site your Windows licence number, or perhaps some other piece of information that uniquely identifies your system. Don't Intel CPUs have a unique identifier that allows each machine to be identified uniquely(!)? I seem to remember that this caused a "bit of a stink" a few years ago when it was first introduced.

If you're referring to YouTube, then I wholeheartedly agree with you. There's a special place in hell reserved for those that upload Minecraft videos to YouTube. I would like iPlayer back though.
