Always "(0 new messages)"
The link at the top of every page which used to show me when I had new PM's doesn't work. It always says "(0 new messages)". Is something not working on the site?

Hmmm... could it be caused by Tapatalk?

Do you get a popup notifying you of a new message when you first log in (when a new message is there of course)?
Please mark all PM's as read, then we can try a few things.

Definitely OK here, it could be a permissions thing, or I think there is a setting for this in the user control panel also...

Are you talking about Tapatalk? I get notifications in the notification bar (Android). I think I have Tapatalk set to automatically check every 2 hours. I don't think I've ever read any of my PM's in Tapatalk.holidayboy wrote:Do you get a popup notifying you of a new message when you first log in (when a new message is there of course)?

They are all marked as read, both on the site (in a browser) and in Tapatalk.

No, on the website I mean.
You should get a pop up when you receive a PM (if that setting is enabled in your user control panel). That's a good place to start investigating I think.

The option to display a pop-up message was turned off. I turned it on. What would you like me to try?

You should get a popup when you navigate to, or refresh a tgb.tv page I think.

I got it. This time, it displayed "1 new message" at the top of the page. But I didn't get a pop-up. That's OK... I don't care about the pop-ups. I wonder why changing that setting would have affected it. I'm also still wondering what would have happened if I left the new message unread long enough for Tapatalk to refresh (it's set to check every 2 hours).

I'm connected via my employer's network at the moment. They filter a lot of active Java stuff... so the popup may get disabled.holidayboy wrote:You should get a popup when you navigate to, or refresh a tgb.tv page I think.

I don't know. I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe if you can send me one more PM... I'll let it stay un-read for a couple of hours to see what happens.holidayboy wrote:I'm still not sure why the popup setting magically got the message count to work tho......

Thanks. I see that I have 1 new message. I won't read it for now. We'll see what happens in a couple of hours.

That's not enough money to be worth the risk. Sorry. While there are ways to do something like that, someone WILL eventually find out... so you'd need to steal enough money to disappear forever. And stealing that much money is very difficult to hide, even for a short period of time.STC wrote:Please move that 250k we talked about into my account.barnabas1969 wrote:Yeah... keeping people's financial data secure is over-rated.
EDIT:
Because of my line of work, I keep abreast of financial news. It always amazes me when someone who works in a financial institution (or for a company who provides the software/services, as I do) steals money (sometimes millions of dollars over a period of YEARS)... and thinks they will never get caught. Trust me... it WILL eventually catch up with you. There are some financial institutions (who shall remain nameless) which don't audit/balance their books as often as they should... and you could get away with it for months or years. But, eventually, someone will notice... whether it's a government auditor, a new employee (like a new internal auditor), or whatever. They WILL eventually catch you.
A police officer who was investigating a theft at a financial institution told me many years ago that when he asks, "Have you ever thought of stealing money from the bank?", and the person answers, "No."... he knows they're a liar. He told me that everyone who has worked in a financial institution, or has been in a position where the data is accessible has thought of ways to steal it. Everyone.
I believe him. When you have an analytical mind, and you've worked in a position like mine for as many years as I have, you see the holes in the system. Sure, there are ways to fool the system... and you can probably get away with it, for a while. The problem is that there are other systems monitoring the system. They may not be efficient, so they may take a while... but they will eventually catch you.
So, just don't do it. It's not worth the risk. Just keep doing your job, and drawing a paycheck. That's my motto.
