XBOX 360 uses less than one watt when "off", unless it is completing a download in the background after being turned "off". Even with the ridiculous NYC electric rates that doesn't amount to much.
The SA Explorer 8400 DVRs used by most cable companies use 90W when "off".
Interesting to hear that the media pack download gets tied to your live account. That sucks. I often get logged off of live after spending long enough in media center and not doing anything on it, and it doesn't seem to have any effect as far as that goes, but someone said it also knows about the first XBOX it was installed on with the account? So I guess you'll be creating 4 silver accounts.
Extender recommendations for FIOS?

Wow, just looked and NYC electric rates are almost 21 cents/KWH. I don't know if that includes taxes. My 11 cents is including all taxes and fees. Basically, just taking my bill and dividing by the number of KWH consumed, I come up with about 11 cents.
For example, my bill right now is $183.99. I used 1663 KWH. That comes out to 0.1106374022850271 per KWH.

That 21 cents is just "delivery". There is another 15 cents for "supply" if you take the bill at face value. Then there are all the taxes and fees. Then there is the fact that their meters are rigged and will claim around 3x your actual usage. I got consistent summer bills between 1500 and 2000 kWh/month in a 160 year old apartment in the historic district (hence antique wiring not upgraded), with the entire apartment on a single 15A fuse. Do the math - if the bill was legit the fuse would have either blown continuously or maybe shorted out and the place burnt down. When you take the fraudulent triple charging into account the real rate is well over $1/kWh.
I think maybe the reason most stores in the city are sweltering is that even businesses can't afford to use the AC. To make matters worse, the water used to cool the power plants is used to provide practically free steam to most of the city, and there are rules on landlords providing free heat and hot water; so most of them have that free steam cranked all the way up to the point you need all the windows open, box fans in the windows, and air conditioning still running continuously in the middle of winter.

Well, if that 15 amp fuse is only providing 120VAC power to your apartment, then you'd only be using 916KWH per 30 days, if it was supplying 15A continuous (which would cause the fuse to eventually blow). That's 120VAC * 15A * 0.707 * 24hours * 30days / 1000 (0.707 is the number to use when power factor is unknown). If it's supplying 240VAC, then double that to 1832KWH.
So, if you have a 240VAC service, it's possible to get a bill between 1500-2000 KWH, especially if the billing period is a little longer than 30 days.
