Using extender with wireless AP

Using extender with wireless AP
My extender in my bedroom was having trouble connecting/maintaining a good connection to my main router due to the distance (3 levels up and 60 feets down). I bought a wireless AP and connected that via ethernet to my main router and set it up. When I try to connect to it with my extender, it finds it and is fine. When I go to the media pc and enter the 8 digit code, it cannot find the extender. Is it because it is on a different SSID? Is there any way around this?

Nevermind...I forgot to put the gateway ip in the configuration of the AP so there was no connection. After that, I was able to get the extender configured no problem.
