IP address settings for MMC Services
Do I need a public static IP for this app? It asks for my public static IP but that can change if my cable company chooses to.

As a general rule, your cable company doesn't bother changing your external IP address all that often. But there are "dynamic DNS" services available (just search for that term on your search engine of choice), and many routers have a mechanism for notifying a Dynamic DNS server when they get a new IP. So you can set your app up to connect to kd6icz.dynamic-dns-dervice.xyz, once your router is set up to use that Dynamic DNS service.
(It would be helpful if Ceton provided a Dynamic DNS service themselves, though it would mean that the service on the HTPC would need to keeping checking to see whether the external IP address changed).

OK. That makes sense and yes it would help if Ceton would set up a service (like Sling does for Slingbox). It would only have to check it every hour or so.

No matter what I do I can't seem to access the box from outside my network. I set my PC with a static IP and forwarded the port in my router. But no go...
Am I missing something?

What make/model is your router?
Did you change any of the port numbers?

It's an Arris TG852 I think... I didn't change any port settings.

The Service registers itself with Windows Forewall. You don't have to do any configuration.bjstick wrote:Windows Firewall?

I suppose it wouldn't make any sense anyway since it can be accessed from inside the network.foxwood wrote:The Service registers itself with Windows Forewall. You don't have to do any configuration.bjstick wrote:Windows Firewall?
Make sure you have a DNAT rule from your WAN interface to the IP of your HTPC, and make sure you allow port 5832 from the Internet to your WAN interface. There isn't any magic involved unless your ISP is blocking ports inbound.

It is most likely just with the router/gateway. I googled that model and found different people having issues with it:
