v2011 as a caller ID server

I can't seem to get cid capable modems to register a call in v2011, has anybody else tried this? I feel I may alone in my plight.

Hi,

I've not tried this on my homeserver, but I do need to do it on my htpc...

I download and install a copy of this, then as part of their help, there is a modem diagnosis, run through the steps, reboot, and then uninstall the software...

This then makes sure that the modem is configured correctly to receive any caller id details.

Go into Control Panel. Select "Phone and Modem." Click the "Modems" tab. Select "LSI PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem" and click "Properties." Select the "Advanced" tab. Under "Extra Initialization commands:" put in "AT+VCID=1" without quotes.

Install this version of YAC:

Save the following as YAC.reg and import it into your registry:

Start YAC and make a phone call. You should see a ballon popup after the first ring with caller id. The name of your modem maybe different then mine but if you use the modem and drivers I linked it should all be the same.

Now to make this work with remote htpcs requires a bit of work as well.

First right click on the YAC icon in the tray of the server running YAC. Select "Listeners." Add all of the IP addresses you want YAC to caller-id messages to. In my case I have my 3 htpc's listed in there with ip address of 192.168.1.250, 192.168.1.251, and 192.168.1.252.

Now go to each of the htpc's you set to receive the caller-id messages on and do the following.

First install YAC Client Services:

I'm familiar with YAC but it's good that you posted that for others to reference. I have tried that same modem before but I'm hoping your driver reference with that command offers me some success. I'll post pack sometime over the weekend.

Well I'm still not getting CID insdide of WHS. No calls are being loogged and obviously are not "popping up" on clients either. I have the exact modem and installed the exact drivers you posted...added the extra initialization command and still no love.

My problem is the modem itself isn't registering caller id for YAC to broadcast.

Have you tried all the AT strings to see which one is needed? I don't think Yac uses TAPI.
Ascendis Caller ID, has a trial and a neat repair tool to find what string your modem needs to activate caller ID.

If YAC still isn't responding I would try using hyperterminal and see exactly what the modem is outputting. The AT+VCID=1 is the most important command for getting caller ID working. I took some screen shots to getting Hyperterminal setup to test your modem. I have also uploaded a copy of hyperterminal because WHS2011 doesn't come with it and it can be annoying to track down.

Initial Setup:


Set the connect option to what COM port your modem is occupying, mine is using COM3:


Only thing you should have to change is the Bits per second rate to 9600:


Last you can see on my first call I let the phone ring three times and there is no caller-id information. I hang up and run the modem command to enable caller-id. I made a second call and shortly after the first ring I see the caller-id information.


If you are seeing caller-id information in hyperterminal then the drivers are setup correctly and we have the correct caller-id initialization command but something is up with YAC. If you aren't getting the caller-id information after putting in the caller-id initialization command you may need to use a different one.

The following are the most common initialization commands also be sure to add +AT before each:

Try those and see if any of them give you the caller-id information. I fought with this for a while so I know how it goes and I will help you out until you get it working.
