Echo Commercial Skip?
I have it working on my HTPC, but it's not working on my Echo at all. I'm using SA, DTB Addin, DVRMS Toolbox.
Is commercial skip supposed to work on extenders?
Does it work on Echo?
Does it work on xbox360?
What is the secret to get it working?
Please help. I am planning on buying more extenders. This will have an effect on what type of extenders I get.
Thanks

Dtb addin works on the xbox just fine.
Edit: i would also expect it to work on the echo, as its a function of extenders in general, but i don't have one, so i can't say for sure.

I haven't used my Echo in awhile, but I seem to remember no such problems here.

I followed this guide- http://www.engadget.com/topics/hd/2009/ ... ia-center/
The only changes I made were the locations of the output files. I don't know if it matters/where the extender looks for the files? Right now I get these files created-
New Folder that I created:
recorded show.vih
recorded show. xml
Default Recorded Tv folder:
recorded show. txt
recorded show.log
recorded show.edl
recorded show.vprj
recorded show.wtv.chapters.xml
I am clueless on which program does what, creates what files, looks for what files on playback.

Dvrmstb (or dirmon2 in my case) sees the wtv file created and triggers the commercial analyzer (comskip or showanalyzer) to analyze and create a commercials file. The dtb addin then reads the commercials file as the show is being played back and will tell MC when and how long to skip.
For most setups the only file needed is the xml corresponding to each wtv file (and of course it needs the wtv to play).
The rest of the files are usually logs, which are good for troubleshooting if you know what to look for, or they are commercials files for other (non-wmc) systems, like sage or,i think you can even get it to work with Tivo.

It's not usually a problem, but check the permissions on the .xml file. Does the Extender user account (MCX-something) have permission to see the .xml file?

Which xml file? I seem to have two-
recorded show.wtv.chapters.xml (which is in the same folder as the wtv files)
or
recorded show.xml (which is in the non-default folder that I created)
I checked permissions. Both folders have Full for Everyone. The Recorded Tv folder with the recorded show.wtv.chapters.xml files also had a separate listing for MCX1-something user but my non-default folder did not. I went ahead and added Full for MCX1-something user for my non-default folder which has the recorded show.xml files. I'll see if that helped.

Adding Full permission to that folder did not help.
Moving xml & vih files from the folder I created to the Recorded Tv folder (so that ALL the xml files are in the Recorded Tv folder) did not help.
I did reboot the HTPC and restart the Echo. Tested commercial skip - still working on HTPC but not Echo.

SOLVED... I didn't know that DVRMSToolbox & DTBAddin had to be re-installed after adding an Extender/Echo. It has to install services for every user and puts a key in the registry. That was all I needed to do. Now commercial skip works fine on the Echo!
Thanks to google, I found the DVRMSToolbox site. Did some forum reading and grabbed the latest releases.

Trust me, you don't have to reinstall DTB after adding an extender. I've mucked with extenders several times, and never had to reinstall all that.

Maybe it was the older versions I was using-
DTB Addin v1003 updated to v1007-R3
DVRMSToolbox v1219 updated to v1225
Maybe it was that I was missing the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service- AlwaysUseFPD DWORD=1 in my registry.
I will be adding more extenders soon. We shall see how that goes...
