Good news indeed. Some of the usage data (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011 ... art-2.aspx) was interesting.

that's a relief.

I wonder if we'll get anything new though.

the jump from xp to vista was big, the jump from vista to 7 was noticeable.. so i suppose we'll what, get 1 new feature with 7? Even one feature would be enough to make the die hards upgrade, it's exactly the same then I think that lowely 6 will probably stay put.

I really hope it gets worked on and we get a new interface with an app store like boxee, i mean look at all that cool stuff on the xbox 360's UI now, loads of integration.

What was the "big" change between XP and Vista Media Centres? No functionality change as far as I'm concerned, just a prettier interface.

I think tommo is talking about the OS, not WMC.

now we dont have to suffer through more threads about the sky falling. now we can just sit back and relax until we can get our hands on windows 8.

Glad to hear MC will at least get life support. Would have been nice if they could incorporate it into the new tiles UI -- have a media hub that could be extended to your Xbox360. Consolidate Zune, Media Player and Media Center.

Maybe I'm just old and grumpy, but I don't get the excitement. Yes it's good news that they haven't dropped Media Centre (which Thurrot says they should do) but until we actually learn if it's changed at all from 7MC then I'm not going to get excited. After all, does anyone get excited about the continued inclusion of WordPad in Windows?
