MMC Can't Find Server While On Ethernet

#1

Post by acraigl » Sat Jun 22, 2013 1:26 pm

I found an interesting scenario with MMC this morning.

I have an Asus Infinity tablet and the Asus Connect Dock, which has onboard Ethernet. I launched MMC and it complained that it could not find the server. After several attempts, I undocked the device (which disables Ethernet and starts WiFi) and then the app ran, downloaded newest data and worked as normal.

Oddly, on re-docking there is no problem with the app. Based on this it seems (speculation only) that it if it needs a data refresh, it looks to a wifi connection only, which failed in this case.
Anyone know if this is the way it works? If so, Ceton, can I request that Ethernet (Eth0) also be considered as a valid networking interface for your app?

Can you please post the output of ipconfig on your PC when it was both docked and undocked?

You'll see similar output. When docked it disables wifi and enables ethernet (and vice-versa).
It's an android tablet, so it's 'ifconfig', but here goes:

Undocked:
# ifconfig eth0
eth0: No such device
# ifconfig wlan0
wlan0: ip 10.0.0.29 mask 255.255.255.0 flags [up broadcast running multicast]

Docked:
# ifconfig eth0
eth0: ip 10.0.0.20 mask 255.255.255.0 flags [up broadcast running multicast]
# ifconfig wlan0
wlan0: Cannot assign requested address

Are you on an android device?

Go into settings -> Advanced -> Always try internal

You can also try to create a new device that has both internal and external IP as : 10.0.0.29

Yep, android, as stated above. Didn't know about that setting; will post back if it happens again. Thanks!

Yes on all the apps the idea is if you are on wifi we want to check internal and then check external. If you are not on wifi we skip internal and go straight for external because you are on cellular. But I put that setting in there just in case :)
