MKV files play only audio - SOLVED!

#1

Post by Skyflier » Wed Jun 12, 2013 7:57 am

I was getting only audio when playing mkv's on my Ceton. The Shark007 Codec pack resolved the issue.
I installed both the 32 bit codec pack, then the 64 bit pack.
Everything should be left to default, except:

Within the 64 Bit Application Settings Program, under MKV, Shark007 has added Ceton Echo Support.
Select the Ceton Echo Extender support (rather than the "Support Common Externders").
Restart your Echo.
Enjoy playing all of your MKV's!

It worked great for me.
I'm donating to Shark007 for a job well done.
Hope you do too!

Any deleterious effect on live TV or recorded programs?

Sky, could you comment on the type of file that was contained in your MKVs? I'm mostly interested in knowing if bluray rips (i.e. - high bit rate H264) will play now if I put them in an MKV wrapper.

Thanks!

Shark is really good, I have been using it for years. Just make sure you uninstall any additional crap that his install process tries to sneak on your system.

It does not solve Blu-ray rips compressed with Handbrake using ATV2 or ATV3 profile. AVS forums had some additional details on what worked in the MKV and the reference frames are only 2 for H.264.

This does not allow playback of all mkv rips. In fact most of mine play exactly the same. I have noticed a little bit of an improvement on the low bit rate small file sized mkv's that I do have, but Blu-ray rips.. Forgetaboutit!
