If I try to examine the contents of the folder in windows explorer, no files show up at all, although the recorded files show up in the mediacenter recorded tv view. Does not matter if I check or uncheck "show hidden files". This is the only folder in my library for recorded tv. What gives? Where are they?
I don't remember having this issue before with Media Center in Windows 7. I am using the HD Prime with my cable provider on Windows 8 Pro.
Where are my recorded tv files?

Are you looking in the public recorded tv folder?

You may have hit the nail on the head. I will check when I get home.

That was indeed the problem. It had been so long since I had set up Media Center that I had forgotten that by default media center records to the public recorded tv folder.
By simply migrating in Media Center to Tasks/TV/Recorder, I was able to add the drive I wanted to use. I had forgotten that you go there, and not Tasks/General/Media Libraries to address that issue.
Thanks for politely reminding me!

Happens to the best of us! Glad it was something simple.
