The "smarthub" connects via wifi, rf and Bluetooth. I'll have to read more, but i wonder if this can connect to the htpc without an IR blaster? Sounds promising.

HERE'sa good review, including prices. Sounds very promising. Too bad they couldn't come up with this BEFORE they decided to leave the remote business.

I got excited when I read Mak's post, but then I read the article. The idea of a WiFi remote intrigued me. I was hoping maybe it had direct network control of devices that support this, as my TV and AVR both do, and a computer could easily do with some software installed. But I was disappointed to find out that it just uses a "hub" that is nothing more than an RF to IR translator.

If someone would invent a WiFi remote that can communicate directly with components that support network control, then I'd be interested.

Doesn't iRule do that already?

It wasn't entirely clear to me what this new hub will do... But if it finally acts as a HID device (via Bluetooth or wifi) for a computer, it's already a step forward compared to other harmony remotes, imo.

I don't know, but I wouldn't want to use a smartphone or iPod as my primary remote anyway. I like having hard buttons for the most frequently used functions so that I can use the remote by feel.

Plus then you can use your phone and remote simultaneously.

This x 100000. No hard buttons, no sale.

I'm not condoning the use of iRule or recommending it. I'm just saying it does IP control for all devices that support it.
