I haven't got that far in to XBMC and Live TV yet. My plans are to buy a new Blackgold BGT3620 TV Tuner for the WHS server and install DVBLink again. DVBLogic have a Live TV XBMC add-on which I plan on using. XBMC is not as good as MCE in the Live TV department, least not yet.

Been a big learning curve, as I hadn't used Linux before. I have based my XBMC on Linux Ubuntu Minimal which is just terminal / command line no desktop GUI at all.STC wrote:And how is that treating you may I ask?
Some of the guys on the XBMC forum are quite friendly others not so much, but generally help can be found on there by new users. Though they probably think I am an idiot asking stupid newbie Linux questions.
Have a look on my blog I've done a few posts about my exploits in to the XBMC world, you can see some screen shots etc.
I am still working out if to ditch MyMovies.dk or not and I am still working out some of the artwork things, as the skins are allot more graphical you need allot more extra artwork for it to look right.
Cheers

I wanted to do it the difficult way and really try and learn how the system works inside out, rather than cheat with a Live version like XBMCBuntu or OpenElec.milli260876 wrote:Any particular reason you didn't go xbmcbuntu native??

How you getting on with Windows 8? I didn't like it, not got one Windows 8 machine here. Although I just setup a new Windows 8 touch screen laptop for my brother last week!

I like w8, but I'd already fallen for "metro" with windows phone... Don't get me wrong it can be a bit clunky at times but some of the"apps" are starting to look good. it's not very remote friendly outside of mediacenter, but I've got a logitech touchpad that works wonderfully with it. Still clinging to the hope of kinect 2 integration tbh!!!
found w8 really useful for my little girl too with a fair few kid friendly apps...

Did MS ever fix the Modern UI apps for Pictures, Videos and Music so you can add in your own content from the LAN on the server or NAS ?milli260876 wrote:I like w8, but I'd already fallen for "metro" with windows phone... Yeah it's mostly functional but not yet finished. I helped him with some small UI things - I have the beta for this; but have yet to install XBMC and configure it.cw-kid wrote:Looks interesting, I assume its still being developed and not a finished solution?

Sounds very interesting indeed, please let me know how it works out for you in the longer term? I might have to do a write up about it on the Digital Lifestyle.com site.staknhalo wrote:Yeah it's mostly functional but not yet finished. As I have already formatted all my MCE PCs LOL. I think I will try the TV tuner card in the WHS 2011 with DVBLink back-end and their DVBLogic XBMC add-on first.
Need a new tuner card though to try it. Anyone got a BlackGold BGT3620 for sale ? Or something that will do DVB-T2.

If you can't find the Blackgold tuner you're after, give the TBS T2 cards a look. I have a dual and a quad in my WHS with DVBLink. Both the cards work brilliantly, unfortunately DVBLink doesn't play at all well with Server 2012 (Essentials).cw-kid wrote: Need a new tuner card though to try it. I bought a Blackgold tuner. But as expected live TV in XBMC isn't as good as with MCE.dduk wrote:If you can't find the Blackgold tuner you're after, give the TBS T2 cards a look.
