Tuners dropping off

#1

Post by drtdiver » Mon Mar 25, 2013 6:40 pm

maybe someone can help me shed some light on what is going on here with my system. i'm running the pci-e version of the card everything has been pretty much flawless for the past 4 months or so. then out of no where on Thursday at 9 pm i had 4 shows to record, 3 of them started with out issue the 4th one had an error and it got recorded later that night because cable likes to replay everything. so i didn't think much of it. so i went to watch some live tv around 10 pm and only had 1 show recording which was the one that it missed earlier and when i tuned the channel it told me there was no tuner available but only one was in use. a reboot of the computer solved this and all was good. then it happened again last night this time it was three turners in use at one time and a show got an error and i couldn't watch live tv again.

I'll have to check that out. I'll set up 4 recordings tonight. I don't think its a temp issue I've got a 120 mm fan blowing over the card usually when I check on temps its between 36 and 45. But I'll check again to make sure I'm not getting too hot.

^ Apologies drtdiver. I had posted you check temps, but deleted it accidentally through Tapatalk whilst trying to edit it. My bad sorry.

So after about 30 minutes of recording on all 4 tuners my temps are reading between 43.3 and 43.5. I'm also playing a recording to see if my GPU is adding heat to the card.

That's fine. It's not temp related.

I didn't think the temps were an issue I let it keep recording for over an hour and temps never got higher than 45.3
Its really strange because the tuners show up fine in the ceton tool as not tuned but every once and a while windows says none available. And a quick reboot solves the problem. Its just a pain having to wait for one recording to finish then reboot to get all the tuners back. Also for it to pop up out of no where after months of no problems.

You might want to try popping the case off and reseating the tuner, just to be sure.

I have a gen one infinitv. A while ago twice in succession for no apparent reason tuner 4 became unavailable and I had similar symptoms to you. It hasn't happened since. I do very occasionally power off my HTPC and pull the plug for five minutes. The total reset does seem to cure all hardware ills for me.

I've been running this card since September of 2011 and tuner 4 seemed to drop quite often. Then after updating to the latest beta drivers firmware and hardware in December I haven't had a single hiccup.
I guess I'll just sit back and see what happens. Could just be a quirk with windows.
