Failed recordings

#1

Post by wmcuser1233 » Thu Mar 21, 2013 6:42 pm

I get this problem at least once a week I will have shows recording and media center will pop up a error saying that the shows are unable to record due to a unexpected failure. If I check the history in media center it says "the windows media center receiver service terminated unexpectedly" I am running two tuners hauppauge hvr-1800, and a ceton infinitv4. It seems like this happens when something is recording on both tuners. This is on a machine I built back in December with the following specs Windows 7 Pro, Crucial M4 64gb, 8 gb ddr3 1333, MSI Z68A-G43 (G3) LGA 1155, Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz. I never had this problem on the machine I was using before and I was using the same tuners. Is it possible I have a hardware issue? The machine hasn't been getting blue screens or anything. Its been rock solid other than that issue. Any ideas? Thanks for any replies.

Are both tuners on the latest firmware and drivers? Have you tried removing one of the two tuners and using the system for a week?

Yes, both are fully updated. Removing one of them really isn't a option, both are used everyday. Really it isnt even a option to have the machine off unless I want to hear a bunch of people whining  Right now its not a huge issue because it only happens around once a week sometimes two weeks will go by before it happens. If it started happening everyday it would be a problem.

Also, take a look at the Windows event logs and see why the receiver service is crashing.

Psisdecd.DLL is a DirectX component. Here's a link with some suggestions:

Thanks I will try updating to the latest directx. The thing is the machine just sits there and streams to extenders. I don't even have a monitor hooked up to it. If I have to do something I just remote in. Its worth a shot though.

Edit: I went back and checked the logs for the last time it happened and the same dll was listed.

Edit: Well I ran the latest directx setup and it didn't update that dll, its the same one that was on it before.

Edit: I have been doing some searching and found this post on another website "Basically, this is a Microsoft component that is monitoring channel metadata in the broadcast stream, but can crash when it encounters unexpected data that some broadcasters use." I found a thread where erkotz metions the dll. Dont know if my issue is related. http://experts.windows.com/frms/windows ... 02922.aspx

This hotfix (which Ceton pushed MS to create! :D ) should resolve your issue:

Thank you erkotz and Ceton. I went ahead and installed the update. Wonder why MS hasn't pushed it through windows update?

It won't come through Windows Update. There are two different update branches, and this branch doesn't go to WU.

That would explain it, thanks. I will have to save this thread in case I ever need to clean install or upgrade to windows 8.

Just curious, did this seem to solve the issue? I'm also noticing a lot of failed recordings regarding the psisdecd.dll, and trying to dig in and see what the issue is. Thanks!

Yup that did the trick. :) I still get failed recordings but its only once in a while now. Maybe once a month.
