I have been considering buying two more echos, but have been waiting for it all to come together. I can almost taste it. New hope

Not that that's a bad thing....

It's definitely interesting but I don't think Android automatically brings HBR MKV and DTS support and you didn't address this at all in the update.

Recorded TV and Live TV from within Android? Almost makes the MC Extender platform unnecessary...
Looking forward to seeing it!

I wonder if that will allow more than 5 extenders.

I shipped my Echo back yesterday. As I've said before, I'll keep my eye on the Echo. When/if it truly delivers what was originally promised, and it's 100% stable, I'll definitely try it again. The photos in the blog look very interesting, and if foxwood is right, it could become a very cool interface.

This is fantastic news! My main concern was how android/WMC would be integrated together and that it might feel clunky requiring a reboot etc. Having them all in one interface is what we all hoped for. Bravo to Ceton for taking the time to do this right.

I read the blog update and maybe I am missing something but I do not see anywhere that you can play live TV or mention of a guide from within android. It looks to me something like XBMC running on android. It still looks like you would have to have dual operating systems for live TV in MCE.
I think the devil will be in the details but if they do what they say they can do and it does not take a long time to develop it could save the Echo.
I use mine as an extender for my bedroom right now but had hoped to use it as my main interface buy a second one and put my HTPC in a closet as a headless server. Maybe there is hope after all.

I assume that means they are working on live tv for this android app... and they already have a guide going in the My Media Center app, so I don't see why it wouldn't be there in this new system. There are a bunch of Android-based digital media players out there that give you streaming services, but none have integrated Media Center with Android to give you live TV and DVR as well.

Sounds more like two separate things or apps to me. I suppose they might just be hooks into separate apps but I do not see this as and Android only interface and eliminating the MCE / Extender operating system. I am not saying this will not be a good thing but until they release a beta and offer more details its all speculation.

It says "a complete integration of Windows Media Center in Android". That sounds like all the functions of WMC inside the android interface to me, which means it would function right alongside the other android apps (Netflix etc).
