FW Update on DMA2100

#1

Post by Mentor2003 » Sun Feb 17, 2013 11:56 pm

Hi at all,

i've bought an DMA2100. Unfortunatly the Download of the newes FW Realeses will get to froze the device. I've read about the problems with fritz Boxes and change the primary DNS Entry to 9.9.9.9. But therefore the device couldn't found any FW Release. On the Cisco Page I can download the last FW Binary but what is the way to use it? I'm very confuse about it. Pleas help! Thx

What version of firmware is the DMA2100 running at the moment?

Have you hard reset the unit yet?

Unplug the power cable from the extender and while it’s unplugged, press and hold the reset button on the back of the extender.
While pressing and holding the reset button, re-plug the power cable and keep holding still the reset button way down to 10-15 secs then let it go.
Wait for the extender to completely reboot.
When the Main Menu appears, select Settings. (If you’ll get into the Windows media center automatically, you need to exit out first from the interface to see the main menu. Just go to TASK, then EXIT)
Press the right arrow on the remote control and select General.
Use the up and down arrow on the remote control to select Reset to factory defaults.

Ok, then I've reset the device. But how can I use the Update procedure while the device will be frozen due the update process? I've reseted the device two times and every next try was the same. freeze :-( I'am using cable network, but allready tried with wireless lan. everytime the same... Therefor I would try to install the FW via downloading and installing the binary from the cisco DL Page. What is the binary good for? can I update the FW manually?

Ok thank you for your help, I will kick the box in the garbage and build a full media center for my sleeping room. I think this implementation of media center extender software on this boring Linux is not really the best way. thx ;-)
